I think this might be one of the first finales I'll leave on in the background while doing my dishes.

This is fucking hilarious. The Dexter sub on Reddit decided to have the weekly official discussion thread be about Breaking Bad instead.

    I loved this comment:

I think Holly's performance in "Ozymandias" was better than all of season 8 from Dexter.
Seriously though, best baby performance ever? In spoilers, since this isn't the Breaking Bad thread.

Speaking at a Paley Center event earlier this week to celebrate the series, Nevins said:
"Arguably, Dexter is to Showtime what Spider-Man is to Sony or Batman is to Warner Bros., so I think it's going to be important for us to keep it alive."
Nevins admits the network has been spending a considerable amount of time considering where the franchise could go moving forward:
"We spend a lot of time talking about how we keep the show alive, so it may be a more complicated original idea than just a spinoff… I hope that whatever we do will feel both original and in keeping with what people expect out of Dexter."

By the way, Clyde Phillips (the old showrunner) said he'd be doing a reddit on Monday, to say how he would've ended the show. (Not that I think his run was the best, but at least he's not Buck.)http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1mkv67/

I'm never going to watch anything that Scott Buck is in charge of ever again. Who's with me?

I said the same thing about Jenji Kohan, and now everyone's raving about Orange is the New Black. At least Weeds was decent at the start, whereas Dexter (although dipping in quality after season 2) turned to complete crap once Buck took over. So yeah, fuck Buck.

Even worse than the fake spoilers I read where Quinn kills Saxon and essentially becomes the new Dexter.

I'm thinking it was a nod to that Monty Python episode where Michael Palin is a secret serial killer who abruptly becomes a lumberjack. Did Michael C. Hall get to sing?

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

    Wow.

Now I can officially say that over half of Dexter was terrible.

Edit: I did sorta like that one Russian guy for what little he was in the past four seasons. I suppose there is that...

Also can I just say, because Dexter decides one last time not to be murder-Batman, that's when the consequences destroy his life. Bwa Ha Ha Ha Ha. That's so good. Wow this show. Just wow. What a terrible show.

The AVClub article is great on this episode but there's one line which I completely agree with: "It’s a feat for a finale to make you regret having watched a single moment of the series, but “Remember The Monsters” made it look easy."

I basically now regret having watched this show. Sure the 1st and 4th seasons were quite good, but looking back I don't even care to re-watch them. That's how sour the milk is now.

So the Dexter writers "explained" the finale:
    http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/09/23/de...series-finale/

But a fan gripe was the season had Dexter dispatching new threats like in a typical season rather than a sense of that the show was arcing toward a finale with Dex’s world unraveling.

    BUCK:
It felt like we had done that with LaGuerta last season and with Lundy in season 2. I felt like it ran the risk of feeling repetitious and familiar.
COLLETON: Going that way felt pedestrian to me. I don’t know how else to put it. Years ago it was discussed and tabled as a very predictable non-interesting way to go.

Reading all the angry reactions online to the finale is my kind of schadenfreude.

Haha, this is great. The contempt is just dripping out.

As a rule, I think it’s ridiculous to judge someone for liking or disliking an artwork. But I have to be a hypocrite here: If, after watching “Remember The Monsters,” you still consider yourself a fan of Dexter, I’m judging you. Not quietly. Loudly. I’m in your face with a megaphone, yelling “WHAT IS YOUR DEAL? CAN’T YOU SEE HOW AWFUL THIS IS?” You may be thinking, “Why are you yelling into a megaphone? Isn’t that redundant?” But you love a show that, for the better part of eight seasons, has used voiceovers and ghost dads to call your attention to things you’re currently looking at with your eyes. So you’ll forgive me for thinking redundancy is your thing, won’t you?
