But how will they wrap up the Quinn/Batista drama? Will Masuka be able to make up with his daughter? What of Deb and Elway? I smell relationship drama a-coming! The toughest part about this show ending will be figuring out the new worst-show-I-follow.

It's amazing how uneventful this season is. If I hadn't been made aware this was the final one, I never would've guessed.

True Blood seems eager to succeed Dexter, I'd say.

Well, this episode had a shirtless Dora Madison Burge (of Friday Night Lights fame). So I guess that's something, at least?

Well, it wasn't as putrid as I expected. I guess that's another something.

So 45 minutes of Breaking Bad's final season has more going on and intensity than 8 episodes of Dexter's final season. Maybe (hopefully) something exciting will happen in the last few episodes, but right now this is going out with a whimper. I don't even care if Dexter gets caught or not, I just want it put out of it's misery.

Anyone else think this will end with Dexter dying martyr-style and Harrison being found in a puddle of his blood? Seems like the kind of hackneyed thing this show would do.

I hadn't considered it, but that does sound about right.

Harrison was already found in a puddle of his mother's blood, it would serve no purpose to do that again, so no I don't expect that.

    Fair point.

IMO this is what the season should have been. Flashback a ways, Deborah does not kill Laguerta. She pulls on Dexter but he escapes and then this whole season is Miami Metro tracking him down with a series of near escapes. Finally he is cornered in epic fashion and he goes to trial. The trial exposes all the pros and cons of what he does and finally he's put death by lethal injection. The last shot is him experiencing the sense of powerlessness he enacts upon all his victims and having his own epiphany about all this shit. End in a dream sequence of some nature mirroring the season one finale.

Drawing parallels between Dexter killing murderers and the State killing murderers is the only ending that makes any sense for this show.

I could see that working in a universe where Dexter hadn't suffered from a terrible supporting cast for years now, but as is: do we even care about these characters at this point? Like, how involved with Dexter are they even?

I still think the biggest mistake the writers made was kill off Doakes so early on, especially in a Deus Ex Machina way. The better option would've been to turn him into a reluctant ally of Dexter (similar to Deb's role now) and even use some material that happened in the later seasons: Rita's death, Vogel having him questioning his murdering ways, etc... There was a true dynamic between those characters, and I feel like that just went missing in later seasons, replaced by a guest star of the year instead. Like, why even have Prado on the show? Doakes could've fulfilled that role.

The whole thing just feels like half-assing your job. There are some alright elements in there, but it all adds up to nothing but average.

Yeah either keep Doakes alive or Brian. You could have made them seem dead but not obviously so, write them off the show for a while (they have urgent business elsewhere) and then bring them back later so we have a serious antagonist to deal with once more.

More nude scenes that try to show as little as possible.

Other than maybe the second episode or so, this season has been so goddamn boring.

Wish this was over in 3 weeks, but there's a delay due to Labour Day. This season can't do anything right.

This A.V. Club review does a very good job of explaining what the problem with this show is: giving Dexter the outcome he wants is the entire point of the show.

Someone please make the stupid stop.

Best part of the episode was Jamie telling Deb to go fuck herself.

Scratch that, the best part of the episode was everything about the scene where Harrison falls off the treadmill.

It was really nice being able to watch seasons 6 and 7 in such a quick fashion because the glaring flaws didn't feel as glaring because I'd just move on. Doing it week to week it's just too much. They just seem to not have it in them to make good television, but what was so weird to me was watching The Daily Show this week and they said, "Only 3 episodes left." And the audience cried "No." Or there are some guys I know who keep saying this is the best show ever, and I think it's sorta like the concept of Zombies, if you're all in, it doesn't matter what they throw at you, you'll love the shit out of it.

I watched this week's episode before Breaking Bad cause I had some stuff to do while watching. Now I feel depressed.

One comment in the most recent AVClub article was the best and I thought I'd repost it here in case you miss it:

You give the writers no credit, but those lines were actually directed at the audience.

"You're still here. I hope you realize that."

    "Why wouldn't I?"

"I just don't want you to have any unrealistic expectations."

I hate Scott Buck and this writing staff so much.

Nice touch of continuity by bringing back Prado's widow, though.

The motivations behind some of these actions is laughable.

    "they're on to me here."
    "stay there." really?

'the only thing standing between me and happiness is killing this guy tied a chair. meh, don't feel like it.'

One episode left, are you excited for all this drama to finally come to a head?
