Am I really the first person to see this? My older son was away at camp with his class the last couple days, and so I took my younger son to pick out a movie last night. This was his pick. Not much to say about it. It's an unfunny, inoffensive bore about parents learning to let go of their children, and about not judging a person by their appearance. Voice work was subpar, as was the animation. Monster angle wasn't really taken advantage of like it could have been. Instantly forgettable stuff, but there's worse children's schlock out there, that's for sure.

I expected a lot more from Tartakovsky. I read in the thread for this film in the Upcoming Film Forum while doing a search that this was a director-for-hire type deal for him, but he's slated to direct the sequel to this, so I'm not sure how much of this wasn't his doing in the end. I guess the end product of the sequel will tell a lot.
