The anthology TV show is pretty much over, right? I doubt an expensive rebboot will change much.
It was a snapshot in time series. An early TV production that took the aftermath of 50s-era sci-fi obsession mixed with its Cold War relevancy and political persecution (timeliness as well as nostaglia) and ushered in an exciting anthology-based structure.
It stands no chance of repeating that success. I would say a horror-based series still stands the best chance, but it needs to not be produced and written by fucking Mick Garris.

There are lots of SF authors they could use for story ideas, both old and new.
You could make an entire season out of Sturgeon and Bester stories, that would still be as timely and relevant today as they were in the 1950s.
I disagree with you about Gaiman as a novelist, but TV writing is surely closer to comic book writing anyway, no?
He's also proved himself in this medium already. His episode of Doctor Who is tops.
Heh. I dislike Doctor Who more than I dislike Gaiman as a novelist.Quoting Winston* (view post)
But you are correct, TV might be more his bag. But personally I'd rather see other people involved in this hypothetical situation
He's probably my most-read, least-favorite author. I've read all of Sandman, Books of Magic, Black Orchid, Stardust, American Gods, Good Omens, Smoke and Mirrors, Coraline (I think it's his best), and Neverwhere.
I do, however, think he is very smart, and I love listening to him talk about genre and the industry. He has good things to say.
Would like to see the resurrected corpse of Faulkner's take on "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet".Quoting D_Davis (view post)
Black Mirror from the UK is a good example of a modern Sci-Fi anthology series. Worth checking out. There are only 3 episodes in the first season.
Never heard of this. Thanks for the tip.Quoting Winston* (view post)
"Disappearing Act," by Alfred Bester would make an amazing hour-long episode.
It's be fun to put together a list of 13 short stories that would make for good episodes - things that are interesting, and easy to transition from page to screen.
J.G. Ballard has some great material for this as well.
Sturgeon's novella, The [Widget], the [Wadget], and Boff, would be fantastic.
I'd like to see a show set in Vermilion Sands.Quoting D_Davis (view post)

Anyone know what iteration of a reboot attempt this was at that time? (Since the thread title was changed to refer to Jordan Peele now.)

A twist worthy of the Twilight Zone itself.

Huh, they're remakes of the classic episodes? That's disappointing.
Those are guesses by me. But they do fit the bill.Quoting Grouchy (view post)
I got the impression they remade some episodes but the bulk of the show is new material. Is that not the case?
Big red flag either way. (Every TZ reboot has done "Nightmare at 30,000 Feet" and there's no reason remake for a third or fourth time, ffs!)
Sweaty John Lithgow ftw.Quoting Irish (view post)

I thought both initial episodes sucked, even though they started well and had a solid foundation.
Biggest peeves:
- The show is an ~hour when it should be half that.
- Color photography takes away a lot of the creepy / myserious / other-worldly vibe of Serling's original. (Ditto location shoots versus obvious sets.)
- Once the audience gets the initial premise --- which the show force feeds us within 5 minutes --- there isn't anywhere for the story to go.
I did think Peele nailed his introductions. The previous reboots were always off from the start because the narrator couldn't compete with Serling's weird cadence and comic gravitas. But Peele did his own thing and did it well.
Yeah, the second episode is better, but the ending doesn't feel like it does much in terms of taking the story to another level. Maybe I'm being unfair in comparing the show to the best of the original series. Those are the ones that stick in the mind. The original had weaker episodes as well (usually the ones not written by Serling). Peele's intros and outros are indeed wonderful and go a long way to convincing me to have patience with the series.
