Spader's a really good choice. I'm still eager to find out who will be the new boss. Depending on their choice, Season 8 could either build on how strong Season 7 was, or be more like Season 6 where at times I felt as if the show should just end.

I have mixed feelings about the premiere. Why wasn't it as funny as it could have been? And I'm pretty sure Gabe is the Scranton Strangler.
I agree. The change in boss was interesting but I already became used to it by the second half of episode. And even though I saw it coming, I loved Jim's list at the end. I didn't think it was a bad episode, just not as much of a surprising shift as I would have hoped. I think had the post-Carell episodes from last year been the start of this season, then it would have been more exciting to see the characters go through as many bosses as they have in such a small amount of time before revealing that they finally settled on [] after a whole summer of waiting.Quoting billybreton (view post)
The main thread is here though.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
Yeah, it was kind of lame. Choosing Andy as the boss was anticlimactic.Quoting billybreton (view post)
And I would find Gabe much more interesting if he was the Scranton strangler.
...and the milk's in me.
Wasn't Toby on the jury for the strangler? Or do you think that was the wrong person?Quoting billybreton (view post)
And I just assumed they'd keep it a running joke without resolution.
...and the milk's in me.
At the Dundies episode Toby suggested that they convicted the wrong man. Plus, wasn't Gabe suppose to go back to Florida? I think they are keeping him there until they resolve that storyline.
Riiiiight. Okay, I'm curious now. And I think that they didn't introduce the Strangler as a character until after Gabe came. And he can be really creepy.Quoting billybreton (view post)
...and the milk's in me.
I think it has to be. No one seems to like him. And who watches gore flicks on dates? I could be wrong. It could be just a running joke that just fizzled out.
I want Gabe to be the Stranger because I detest Gabe. He's not funny, at all, or likeable, but maybe that's the point, I guess?
Andy being named manager was lame, but maybe over time I could grow to accept it. There were some good jokes in the opener and Spader stole every scene he was in, yet I felt something was missing without Michael Scott around. Does anyone have the numbers for the season opener? I still can't shake the feeling that the show will only last two more seasons without Steve Carrell at best.

Robert California is what the show needed as far as creating new conflict and shaking things up.
I thought this episode was pretty solid. The show seems to have found some footing again. Erin continues to be the funniest character.
No Gabe to be seen. Off strangling women? Possibly.
...and the milk's in me.
I agree, and the bit with the coffee was hilarious. I love Erin on this show. Andy getting the tattoo was actually really amusing. I may be slowly warming up to him as manager.Quoting Mara (view post)
Gabe being a murderous psychopath would explain why he threatened Andy when Andy wanted to date Erin.

The second episode is a very good sign. I may have to retract my Gabe theory though. In a deleted scene that didn't make it to air, Gabe only works At Scranton for only part of the week. He flies to another branch on other days. This would explain his absence. I think they are going to drop the running joke of the 'Scranton Strangler.'
I've watched four or five of the latest episodes and only one mentioned it. I think it's been a dead joke.
I imagine that Gabe working less and less at Scranton would eventually lead to Andy and Erin hooking up, which really should happen at this point.
Oh and I'm sure later in the season they'll have both Pam and Angela go into laber around the same time. We saw how Michael Scott reacted to Pam's first baby, now we'll get to see how Andy handles it.

Yes, yes, and yes. Never cared much for Andy, and more of him is not going to help sway me. The "touching" scenes between Andy and Jim felt forced, never felt that way with Michael. I miss Michael immensely. None of the other characters can come close to filling that void. The biggest laugh was Meredith's desperate "How do we earn points?" after seeing the vibrator.Quoting MadMan (view post)

Why didn't they just make Spader branch manager? I like Andy as a character, but this isn't working. A totally wasted opportunity.
I'm guessing James Spader's availability more then anything.Quoting DavidSeven (view post)
