Yearly Consensus 1961 (Deadline Oct. 29th)

Submit your five favorite films and five favorite performances from this year and in a week someone will give you a top ten in both categories. IMDb dates will be used.

The point system is as follows

    1st Place-5 points
    2nd Place-4 points
    3rd Place-3.5 points
    4th Place-3 points
    5th Place-2.5 points

10.5 pts will be required to make either list.

There will be no restrictions on short films.

There will be no distinction made between male and female performances.
There will be no distinction made between lead and supporting performances.
Voice acting can be considered a performance.

Changed From Spinal's way: If you want to make any changes, edit your old post. I won't be counting them as they come in so it's easier for me and/or others for you to only have one post with your official submissions.

    You may begin now.

Surprised to see Il Posto topping the few ballots it's on w/o Panseri on the performances list. One of the best non-pro perfs I've seen.

Also, Killer of Sheep fans should really check out The Exiles (which got a restoration and DVD release a few years ago).

    2. Mother Joan of the Angels (Jerzy Kawalerowicz)

I couldn't remember much about the performances beyond #3 so I just put my two favorite actors from that year (Gunnar and Jeanne). I expect they were great in those films - I just don't recall much having not seen those films in years.

Antonioni's esteem has been on a downward spiral over the past 50 years.

Blame the casual film buffs who've made him the whipping boy of "pretentious" European cinema.

As for La Notte, it's very good but it's my least favorite of his 60s work. I do owe it a rewatch since I saw it years ago and soon after L'Avventura, which dwarfs most other films.
