I met him at Comic Con a few years ago. Such an amazing person.
I'm insanely jealous. He is my all time favorite sci-fi writer, a man who gave us so much of his own genius. RIP indeed, and when I heard the news on NPR this morning I almost cried.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Welp. I hate her movies and I'm not really grateful of anything she's done, but leukemia is a bitch, so that's sad.

I really liked her nonfiction "the Boston Photographs," which was pretty eye-opening when I first read it.

Pretty much this. But Silkwood's not bad. Or so I remember. It's been ages.

That's a great article. It's rare to find a freshman comp anthology that doesn't include it, and I often shy away from those oft-anthologized pieces, but "The Boston Photographs" is always popular and still relevant.

Griffith was very undervalued. He was money in the 1950s, especially as the anti-hero of Kazan's great A Face in the Crowd. His run on The Andy Griffith Show was great, and the show itself is often overlooked today as the rather exquisite small town, family series that for all intents and purposes paved roads for many such depictions of small town types on TV and in movies. Matlock of which I have seen only a little seems a rather middling series but Griffith plays off his folksy charm with undercurrents of cunning intellect beautifully.

    Sad loss.
