If you really wanna be confused, see him "The Emperor's New Clothes" (2001), where he plays both Napoleon and a peasant impersonating Napoleon. By far my favorite performance of his, outside of maybe Ash.
As I'm skimming through websites, looking for news about Holm's departure, I'm reminded he played Frodo Baggins in a 1981 BBC radio adaptation.

Damn, I didn't know he was that old! (80) Still young but I pictured him much younger.
Batman & Robin probably deserves a Showgirls style reevaluation. Campy as hell, but I wonder if some of the criticisms lobbed at him were veiled homophobia. Honestly, being one of the few openly gay mainstream directors in the '80s and '90s deserves consideration. Queer eye and all that. Mostly he gets a lifetime pass for The Lost Boys. Falling Down is also an interesting film, one that is as prescient as Do the Right Thing for the political sphere of the last five years or so.

It's intentionally campy. Almost a spoof. If that's what you want out of it, you'll probably enjoy.... But camp is only enjoyable for so long
RIP. Say what you will about his body of work, but he always knew how to create grand spectacle. The Phantom of the Opera's shot beautifully with jaw-dropping art direction, and Batman Forever earned its Oscar nom for Cinematography. Even Batman and Robin has cool setpieces, flaws notwithstanding. He will be missed.
