For the first time, I'm daring to enter the waters that are Musical auditions.

I never thought I could sing, but after being basically hounded into singing SOMETHING at a recent get together (since everyone else was), I got looks of bewilderment and was asked why I hadn't done any musicals? So, when my turn came around again and I did "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" I literally got hit over the head with the songbook for keeping it hidden all this time.

I was then invited to two auditions this month:

Avenue Q (April 12th - directed by a fellow Gastric Bypass Surgery patient)
Hairspray (April 14th - directed by Naomi, the same friend who hit me over the head with the Les Mis Songbook)

Having never auditioned for these before, I've been neurotically trying to find a good song. It has to be one I ALREADY know well enough to have confidence, and Naomi recommended using the same song for both auditions.

My final four (as it were):

"If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast (Broadway)
    "Mr. Cellophane" from Chicago
"Me" from Beauty and the Beast (Broadway)
"Out There" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Naomi's helped me pick them out to suit voice and tone and Thursday, we're gonna whittle it down to one.

I haven't been this nervous in a while. How I felt before my surgery is NOTHING compared to this.

Egads, guys. Keep your fingers crossed for me, please.

So the original vision for my book, Velcro: The Ninja Kat, was for it to be in the form of a comic book, and for years I tried to make that happen before I finally settled on writing the story out in novel form. But, sure enough, almost immediately after I published the finished book, I actually had a couple of artists come forward and show interest in working on a comic book adaptation. One of those people, Trevor, is actually someone who I used to work with years back, and at one point we actually did try and get this whole comic book thing going. Things didn't quite work out back then, but this time around we both took this project with the utmost of seriousness, and after months worth of work and polish, we've finally got the first chapter completed.

So here it is, the very first issue of Velcro: The Ninja Kat - The Comic! I hope you guys enjoy it, and we're already hard at work on chapter 2. I'll be posting each chapter online as they're completed, hopefully on a monthly basis (but don't hold me to that!), and the plan is to eventually publish the comic in graphic novel form after we've finished enough chapters to fill a book.

So check it out, if you guys would, and please let me know what you all think.

I really like some of the art, and the classic manga-style page layouts. Reminds me of old Ninja High School stuff. Very well done.

A lot of the writing is a little too on-the-nose for my liking, a little too expository. It might even be better to convey as much as you can without dialog, especially for this kind of story.

Yeah, it's kind of a dialogue heavy story, but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks, dude.

Well, I was planning on having something to post here, but with the local production of Avenue Q being cancelled and me totally blowing my Hairspray callback, I don't have anything to add.

Maybe in August? My director friend wants me to audition for Shrek: The Musical

I could've sworn that I posted that I was impressed with your Sherlock video, but I didn't. It was really neat.

I liked your videos. You've got a strong eye.

I don't always say anything but I almost always check out the work people post here.

Hey, that's the modern life of the unprofessional artist.

It was a lot easier to handle back in the days before the internet, before people expected instant likes and approval, back when no one cared because no one knew except for a few people who knew you.

    Colab!

    It's a deal.

I just realized that my last album was my 31st album. Crazy. I've recorded and released more albums than the average from 10 other bands combined.

When I die, I'm not going to have much of a will. But, I hope I meet someone during my lifetime that I can entrust with the preservation of my music. That's pretty much the only thing that is important to me. I want people to discover my music for hundreds of years after I die.

Most of the CSG stuff is available on bandcamp, the older stuff is still super underground

Some of the I am not the Janitor stuff is available:

I've been in the process of putting the older stuff up on bandcamp for the last couple of years, but never get around to it. It was all mostly recorded pre-Internet release days, and made available only for friends who asked.

All of you should download "Colonial Spa" and listen to it, because it's good.
