Someone should tell them that, then, because MS' marketing and tech profiles have been pushing the opposite narrative. They even specifically said that it's intended to be a Cintiq competitor.
Maybe it's a reverse psychology approach.

I hadn't even heard of Cintiq until today.
You're confusing the value proposition for the product.Quoting number8 (view post)
Do you think it was just a coincidence that Microsoft held this event the day before Apple is set to update their own desktop line?
Surface Studio is very obviously part of a strategy to reclaim the desktop space that Apple largely abandoned and Linux never had. That's gonna take a lot more than selling these things to design firms in LA and NYC.

That Surface looks like it's pretty easy to transport. I can see it working.
Trust me, everyone that's supposed to has heard about it or already owns one.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
As for niche products - some niches are larger than others. Duke is not going to spend thousands of dollars on a Cintiq competitor, but I personally know dozens of people who definitely would: concept artists, designers, digital artists, modelers, animators etc. I would simply love to work on something of that magnitude, but I can't justify the cost because I simply don't make that much money off my art, beyond my salary. I'm using Wacom products at work and at home, and the Surface Pro is enough for when I'm not at a desktop.
