    What can Pazuzu do to the Creature? If I work under the assumption that one needs a soul to be possessed, then possession isn't an option. And any human Pazuzu takes control of, the Creature could kill.

    Yes, but what does killing the human body being controlled do to Pazuzu? It will just jump to a different host, and eventually find one that's capable of killing the Creature, since it's been established that the Creature can be killed by humans.

    It's left sort of ambiguous in the first film. The mood set by the body language of the priest and the music as Reagan's car drives away certainly communicates that it's not safe. Also, the fact that Pazuzu can be traced back to ancient civilizations (the beginning with Max Von Sydow) suggests that killing the host doesn't necessarily kill the spirit. Plus, the priests are trying to get Pazuzu to leave Reagan, and not attempting to kill what isn't actually alive in the traditional sense.

    That was my feeling after watching The Exorcist, also. Plus the fact that after all there were two more movies in the series. I actually want to see a final battle between Pazuzu and Poltergeist.
