This movie, like Mad Max Fury Road in 2015, has defied such improbable odds that every other director out there currently about to embark on a similarly bone-headed idea should consider Blade Runner 2049 as the ultimate blueprint.

You hear that Len Wiseman? Die Hard 6 can be an amazing send-off for the McClane character if you at least give a damn. If you do what needs to be done and don't give a rat's a$$ about the bottom line.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

    Ugh.

ETA: I really, really want this to be good but have been screwed by the Tomatometer too many times. I don't trust anything these dudes have to say.

ETA2: And yeah, I saw some headline earlier that Die Hard 6 is a go. Didn't read the article tho.

This was talked about long ago, with a younger dude playing McClane in the late 70's before it segues into Willis and the present time. Production is about to start.

Not sure if there's a thread, but yes. It's a prequel called Die Hard: Year One. Willis will return as Old McClane in present day scenes, but most of the movie will be someone else playing him saving New York as a rookie cop in the 70s. I find the idea to be an extreme misunderstanding of the character.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Look fellas, I don't wanna hype this thing up into the stratosphere, but some reputed critics are now weighing in:
"I'm so completely staggered by Blade Runner 2049 that it's just taken me seven separate attempts to put my coat on afterwards." Robbie Collin - The Telegraph
I feel a burning need to point out that Robbie -- whom I like -- was a huge fan of "Alien: Covenant."

Damn, $30MM opening weekend. I knew there was a good chance it was gonna a bomb, but that's low.

I don't understand why people ever thought it was going to be some box office smash.

This isn't Star Wars. It's Blade Runner. It doesn't have some huge built in audience spanning generations.

It's a miracle it even got made.

When they were saying earlier in the week that it was expected to have like $140MM opening weekend, I audibly laughed.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

Wow, who said that? I expected more than it did but not much more. The first was a bomb too as I recall.

City's radio station LiVE 88.5 has a national movie guy on every Friday to discuss that week's openings. He said they were expecting a $140MM worldwide opening (about $65MM domestic).

I just don't see broad audiences being interested in hard sci fi.

Ok, I'm watching this on Wednesday on IMAX.

This will be my first IMAX movie since Speed Racer in 2008. Jesus... almost ten years.

EDIT: The only IMAX screen in Buenos Aires is an hour away by car.

The official projection was saner. The studios expected a $45-55 million opening. It still fell way below that.

I also drove 70 minutes for an Imax screen.

Completely off-topic, and this is gonna sound weird, but it's work related, if I'm living in Argentina, and I buy a new/used car I need to get it registered right? Which authority/Ministry/whatever over there is doing that? And may therefore have a database of the complete Argentinian car parc with the vehicles, their specs (make, model, fuel type, horsepower etc...) and the quantities registered?

    Any idea Grouchy?

    Thanks man!

Well, I don't own a car, but yes, you gotta have it registered and you have to have a license plate issued like in any other country. The bureaucratic process is not exactly easy to understand but it's done in the Registro Automotor.

With used cars, though, there's a chance that someone can sell them informally without filling in the paperwork. It's not legal but it could happen.

I'm now very curious as to why you're asking.

Well, I cannot say too much, but I work for an automotive data and software company and this data could have some value for us, except it can sometimes be difficult to obtain such data when it concerns countries outside of Europe due to regulation, language barriers etc...

The eventual database would hold about 10-12 million registrations for the principal segments. But you've put me on the right track although I'm sure the Registro Automotor sounds familiar already. I believe we already tried to get it from them. Nevertheless, it confirms we're on the right track. Thanks. I won't mention your name when I contact them again.

Hahahah everything bureaucratic in Argentina is purposefully a mess, to be honest. Good luck with that!
