I really like the idea of this show being [
] but I almost wish there was a way for Murphy and FX to have revealed that earlier despite its potentially spoiler-y, implicating nature.

I almost feel like I wasn't entirely satisfied by the finale until I read that announcement. So as the season now stands in context, I'll now be able to say I liked it overall, especially as more of a "ride" (as Lucky put it) than a normal piece of television. As brilliantly batshit and awfully inconsistent as it managed to be, sometimes all at once, there's not much else out there that's remotely similar to really outdo it.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

I actually read that announcement before I watched the finale. It's nice expecting closure and then getting it. I'm really excited for the second season. I hope they really go with something really different from murders/hauntings.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Late to the game, but Jessica Lange's character is a goddamned amazing one in this outrageous show.

I really wish McDermott could've been casted differently. He's right up there with one of the more boring actors around.

What the hell is taking so long in getting this to DVD?

I don't think it is? It's standard practice for TV shows to release the previous season's set close to the new season starting. I'm sure the Season 1 DVD is scheduled to be out sometime in October, a couple of weeks before the Season 2 premiere. That's normal.

Yeah - they want to give people as much time as possible to pirate it before making a legitimate version available.

Started this last week, finished it today. I loved its pace and editing, and how it incorporated many staples of the horror genre: the haunted house, the mad scientist, demonic possession. Can't wait for Asylum!

EDIT: Also, it blows my mind that the creators of this show also write for Glee. Talk about versatility!

Not if you've seen Nip/Tuck. I originally anticipated GLEE to be much darker than it ended up being.

I hope Asylum sticks more with horror instead of just going balls-out ridiculous.

Doubt it:
...and it also introduces aliens, Nazis, and a serial killer named Bloody Face who wears a mask made out of his victims skin along with black nightie and opera length gloves.
Ryan Murphy never dials down the ridiculousness for later seasons. See: Nip/Tuck.

Not sure if any of you have seen them, but FX released a couple dozen mini mood teasers for the last little while, and here they all are:

And then the just-released first full-length trailer:

As much as Season 1 had huge ups and downs for me, I think a lot of that stemmed from my uncertainty of what exactly it expected its future of those storylines to be as they went along, and how much I cared to see it through. But now that we all know Murphy & co. have designed this series to hit the reset button every year, I'll be more assured by Asylum's deliberate self-contained-ness and short life expectancy of every plot and character in it.

Plus, I have no problem with amped-up ridiculousness.

Is that in regard to the Dylan McDermott article? If so, that's not that big of a spoiler. Can't say much more without really spoiling the season.

Well they certainly amped up the sexual content, didn't they? I'm not as intrigued this year as the sense of mystery isn't as strong, but I have faith it will develop into a bloody fun mess. More Lange screentime is a plus. And while this isn't much of a compliment considering the medium, this is one of the most solidly directed series on television.

I didn't realize how much I missed this insane clusterfuck of a show until the new opening credits came along and creeped me out as much as it gave me joy.

The forty minutes that followed did not disappoint. Now they just need to sustain and deliver everything they've teased.

Yeah, I loved the hell out of the first episode. Using parts from Richard Einhorn's Voices of Light score was a huge plus, too.

I'm not a fan of the direction they seem to be going this season.

[
]

Even if it would've been more of a "normal" story without their inclusion, there was still more than enough going on to not need that particular angle. I don't have much hope for the rest of the season because of that, but I'll most likely keep watching.

This is going to be nuts. I think I'm especially curious to see what I assume will be a political angle to this season.

I found out this show would be an anthology-style show before I saw last season's finale. I was kind of disappointed because it seemed they were setting up an interesting clash of spirits within the house at the end. However, I think I like this idea better.

Sister Jude is a fascinating character. You're rooting for her in one scene and then hating her in another. The scene where she blackmails the teacher was just nauseating.

Jen and I are watching a greatly enjoying season 1.

This show uses a lot of music from other movies and shows.

I'm pretty sure that's a Ryan Murphy staple. His music team probably is already so incredibly used to getting music from other people that they can easily get for him horror movie music.
