Meh, mecha animes mostly suck and I don't see why this would be any different.

"Huge" is the word he used to describe the monsters featured in the film, which concerns a giant monster invasion and the mech suits mankind creates to battle the beasts. "This is my most un-modest film, this has everything. The scale is enormous and I'm just a big kid having fun."

I like Del Toro, but honestly, this is going to have boatloads of CGI, and I'm not sure I'm digging on the idea of a serious tokusatsu project done in that way.
I'm more interested in that halted movie with the similar premise that Matt Stone and Trey Parker wanted to do with rubber suits.

Alright, I'm in.Quoting Guillermo Del Toro
Seriously though, I'm pretty damn excited for this. From what I've heard coming from Comic-Con, it looks like Del Toro is being given a lot of creative freedom. For instance, he's been allowed to pick the right actors for the roles rather than big stars.
For some reason, mecha animes usually fail to keep my interest, but I've always liked the idea of mechs. I'm crossing my fingers for this one.

Ah yes, Toronto's world-famous Tokyo Town.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
I had no idea they were shooting in Toronto. I'm tempted to take a walk down there just to see what they've done. Reminds me when I unknowingly stumbled onto the set of The Incredible Hulk a few years ago.
Giving up in 2020. Who cares.
maɬni – towards the ocean, towards the shore (Sky Hopinka) ***½

The Marksman (Robert Lorenz) **
Beckett (Ferdinando Cito Filomarino) *½
Night Hunter (David Raymond) *
So a lot of my favorite things involve giant robots (Gundam) and a lot of my other favorite things involve giant robots fighting giant monsters (Evangelion, Gunbuster).
I read somewhere that the robots require two human pilots to be neurally connected as operators, and that the two lead characters are such a pair, one a seasoned, chiseled male veteran, and the other a young female rookie.
Hey everyone. Guillermo del Toro is making a movie for me.
This movie should kick so much ass.

This sounds like a wicked cool idea that probably won't live up to the hype. I hope to be proven wrong. Mechas! Aliens!

This is a movie where that holy grail of CGI - that ever-elusive sense of real weight and heft - could make or break the whole thing.
If robots that big still move like a 6 foot tall person, the entire thing won't work.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

No, the video doesn't work for me. Region issue.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
In short: Del Toro rejected the use of mo-cap technology on the film because he didn't want any of the robots or kaijyus to move anything like a human being. He said no "motion fucking capture shit" because he thinks the benefit of CGI over dudes in suits is that, like the way Harryhausen used stop-motion, you can make them move to your imagination, which would be using CGI's full potential, instead of just using it as a shortcut to create elaborate costumes.
