I also saw the New Pornos about a month ago and was most pleased with the show (forgot to list it), the thing is that I cannot totally enjoy them without Neko (I think she does "save", or rather, improve some of the material) - and she doesn't seem willing to come over here. They were correct and played kool songs ("Bleeding Heart", "Use it", "Alcoholism"), but no "Letter from an Occupant"... they were fun, but didn't leave a lasting impression on me...

Yeah, I doubt I would have loved the show as much as I did if the full lineup wasn't present.

Wow, sounds like one of those ideas that sound great on paper. Did he interact with the crowd at all while he was setting everything up, or did he just keep his head down like a plumber fixing the toilet?

It's an easy way to avoid extra band members, I guess.

He interacted with the crowd during some songs, not during others. It's impressive that he's able to set up a song this way, but after the initial element of surprise it gets tiresome.

Sometimes he took a little time to get going, but I thought Andrew Bird put on a great show. His one-man show technique makes it as much circus act as rock concert, but its interesting to watch and the music sounds great. Plus the whistling has to be heard live in order to be truly appreciated.

I had to tell this guy to shut the fuck up at a Thurston Moore show last week. This loud, drunk, obnoxious bastard was yelling at people for not dancing. I didn't mind it between songs, but when you start doing it in the middle of songs and annoying everyone around you, you really do need to shut up.

It was at a really small venue in Charlotte, and I guess people were just walking the street and decided to pay twenty bucks to go in and drink like Yo La Tengo was some mic night band. She just started talking to her friends very loudly as neither of them were actually watching the show. It didn't get too bad until the third song of the encore but she did leave right after I said it.

During The National there was this British woman who kept bumping into people while "dancing".
My friend asked her to knock it off as she was bumping into his girlfriend, to which she replied she was still allowed to "mooooove" as this was a concert.

I've been pretty lucky in general.

I did tell people to shut up during The Assassination of Jesse James, which caused them to walk out. That was nice.

Interesting you say that. I had a similar Yo La Tengo experience in Baltimore. Pretty much the entire outer ring of the show was talking. That wouldn't be a big deal during loud songs, but made it very difficult to hear the quiet songs. Even Ira said some things in between songs. I turned around and yelled "shut the F up" to the entire crowd. They did, for awhile, then they started back up again.

I've told people to shut up in movies too. Talking in concerts and movies is flat out rude.

I used to go to concerts fair bit when I was younger. Now, I don't. Last month, I went to a concert with an old friend of mine who has always been into music and concerts, it was 2 punk bands, can't recall their names, one was from Canada, the other I forgot. It was funny.
The last big concert was I think Current 93 and I was so disappointed!

This was really nice. The setting couldn't have been more perfect - sitting down, relaxing, in an outdoor tent, with rain pouring outside. "In Metal" and "Dinosaur Act" were particularly wonderful.

Oh man, Les Savy Fav on Friday was ridiculous. Tim stabbed through a spotlight with his mic stand and made sparks fly over the audience, haha.

Best part: they closed with a cover of "Debaser".

I fucking hate it when people pull this shit. Same thing happened to me the first time I saw Animal Collective. He was drunk and just pushing into people and yelling at everyone for "not getting into it". Five minutes later, and this is all true, he pulls out his d and just starts peeing in the middle of the crowd. Which then started a fight with the guy whose shoes he pissed all over. He ran off right after.

Saw Holy Fuck and Super Furry Animals tonight. Holy Fuck was way awesome. They're the real reason I went to the show, even though they were just opening. Then there was a ridiculously long break in between sets and Super Furry Animals played. I had listened to a few of their songs and never been too impressed. Their live performance didn't change my opinion of them. I left half an hour into their set.

So it seems the music scene is starting to improve in my city quite a bit, upcoming ones that I hope to attend are Built to Spill, Pelican, Stars, and the Shout Out Louds. And I may see Jucifer since it is pretty cheap and there might not be anything else to do that night.

I'm going to the same show in a few weeks, though fortunately I like both bands. My friend is a devoted SFA fan, but I'm equally excited to see Holy Fuck, whose EP I really dug last year and have also heard they're great live. The week after that I'm seeing the No Age/Liars show, so February is one hell of a live music month for me.

Saw Battles on Thursday, and Chris Corsano (prolific free jazz drummer; now working w/ Bjork and appeared on Volta) last night. Former was great, latter was amazing even if he only played for 20-30 minutes. One of the most intense and hypnotic sets I've seen.
