Apparently this is spun off of the Alien prequel brainstorming. Noomi Rapace has been cast.
The press release was kind of confusing. I thought they were saying it was an Alien film for awhile.

I think it's a safe bet at this point that Ridley Scott is doing a lot of brainstorming. And by brainstorming I mean cocaine and talking.
As long as he gives us a good movie, he can keep the Colombian stuff flowing.Quoting Grouchy (view post)
That's because the Alien prequel is cancelled and turned into this.Quoting Sxottlan (view post)

Was the Alien prequel really cancelled?
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Yeah, I thought the Alien prequel was still on, but Scott realized that he's got something more interesting right now.

I think the Alien prequel is still on, just maybe put on the back-burner.
I mean, really, there's no way that there isn't going to be another movie in that franchise. Fox loves its franchises, and that's one of the big ones.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Sounds like it was intended to be the prequel, but Lindelof turned it into something else completely. Might just have the Xenomorph involved somewhere.
20th Century Fox is officially saying this was always the movie Ridley was developing and that the media has been misreporting it as an Alien prequel.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
I mean, sure, there's always the possibility of them releasing an Alien prequel a few years from now, but it's not going to be this project with Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof that everyone's excited about.
It's probably going to be Paul W.S. Anderson.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
It sounds like this Prometheus project has some similarities (perhaps in concept/design) to Alien, so maybe that's where the confusion is coming from.
It sounds like a sci-fi horror project.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Wasn't there even some talk that H.R. Giger was coming back to do some artwork for this?
I'm wondering if this will be set in the same universe as Alien? They've already made it the same universe as Predator.

I thought I remembered Giger being involved, too, Sxottlan.
I dunno...regardless of what the project really is, I'm interested in seeing Scott's return to sci-fi.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Hell, I'm more excited now that it's not an Alien prequel.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
With the way they're pimping the "epic sci-fi...you've never seen anything like this before" angle, it sounds like Fox wants another Avatar in their roster.

I was disappointed to learn that it was canceled today. I am looking forward to this movie however.
I'm going to e-mail James Cameron and tell him to work on a sequel to Aliens, and pretend Alien 3 and Resurrection were dreams from cryosleep.
I love Alien 3.
In my books, it's better than Aliens.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

I used to think this as well, but I don't think time has been very kind to Alien 3, while conversely it's made Aliens even more of a classic.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

I actually feel the exact opposite.
Aliens I still love for the effects and incredible creatures, but the pacing is all over the place, and it's a case of so many movies, games and books since it ripping off its overall concept that they have kind of ruined it for me. Even though it was the "first", it feels cliche now.
Alien 3, however, felt like a return to the horror roots of the original, and the new setting was suitably claustrophobic and hellish.
Really, it's a series where I love and admire all 4 films for different reasons.

All four are just so incredibly different from each other. Ripley and the Xenomorph are all that really "unite" them into one series.
