10 Greatest: Of All Time, Of Everything!

So, I've decided to have a little fun and start some Micro-lists. I've realized with busy work schedules and my randomly wandering mind, creating large lists takes up too much time and pressure. So, something new. The concept is pretty simple:

I'll think of a category, and give you the top 10. 1st one is coming up.

The 10 Greatest Internet Websites Currently in Operation....Of All Time!*

The internet is a magical place, full of goodness, warmth, delight, and fun. Yet, when one thinks of it, with the billions of websites in operation, how many do we really use, and use often? Well, this is my list. My indispensable precious websites, which keep me occupied far more then anything in my free time.

    10. Mint.com

I have an obsession with keeping my finances organized. I have binders full of all my bills, paychecks, and financial info. I have a custom made excel tracker to keep a budget for every week.

But I also love graphs, I love a great design, and I love to have it all in one place, so Mint is my addiction for that. Mint keeps a log of all your credit cards, bank accounts, loans, retirement accounts, and property and tracks all of your spending. You can categorize every purchase you make, pull of graphs of your net worth, make budgets, and basically have every financial tool at your fingertips to keep track of goals and your future.

It's a brilliantly designed website, a breeze to use, and for those financial junkies like me he want everything bundle together in one easy to see and read package, this website is it.

Fun Fact: - The single business I've spent the most at in the last two years I've used the website has been Amazon.com.

    9. /Film.com

This is my newest website addiction, and I have Wats to thank for that. I used to always simply go to RT, or here, to get my movie news. But that has changed in the last few months with my frequent visit to slashfilm.com. The simple blog nature of the website, with a geek sensibility appeals to me and not only features the top headline stories in film, but the smaller, more nerdtastic ones as well.

I know Wats has found out about numerous LA film screenings and events through the website, as have I, and of course, they post awesome Blue-ray Deals, funny fan videos, and generally have a lot of kick-ass content.

I find myself making this one of the first websites I click on in the morning, so doesn't that tell you something?

Fun Fact - At Comic-con this year, while talking to all the guys who run the website, Jeff Bridges walked behind us.

    8. Match-cut.org

Of all the forums I've posted on, I would have to say, Match-cut is the best. Now, I may have not posted the most on this site compared to others, and its not the fastest moving around, but without a doubt it has the most valuable content and good reads. While I don't post much in the film threads anymore, I do generally read them and enjoy everyone's thoughts. Without a doubt, you won't find film discussion tackling the range of topics it does here on other websites very often.

And naturally, I of course enjoy the more off-topic threads that pop up here. Whether it be the Obama thread, or TSA bashing, or random thoughts from Mara (Which are absolutely hilarious, seriously Mara, you need to write a book on some of this stuff). It's also one of the few sites where discussion about politics doesn't end in complete hatred and name calling, and generally all parties have something to contribute even if it ends in frustration and quiet withdraw from threads rather then engage in more ultimately pointless discussion.

In short, I have a blast here, and love all of you.

Fun Fact - 74% of my last 100 posts have been about Liberty, Government, or Economics.

There are 7 websites better than us?

    7. Youtube.com

Without a doubt my favorite place for media, and probably most peoples, is Youtube. There's really no long description needed: people, websites, studios, TV Stations, news organization all upload videos, music, presentations, the possibilities are endless.

I use it every day, from music to news, to trailers, to viral videos. Socially, this website has the ability to allow users to start political movements, educate, find the next "big" thing, and of course, laugh at dumb things akin to 'Football in the groin.' It is in many respect, the micro-version of the internet for media. It is one of the greatest opportunities for the dissemination of content, the digital essence of what we all desire.

Fun Fact - Multiple Match-cut "Top Movie Score" videos I've created have had audio disabled because of copyright violations for using parts of songs.

    6. Wikipedia

I would venture to guess when one of us needs to do a quick read on a topic we are not familiar with or are simply curious on some aspect of history, we pull up Wikipedia and do a quick search or browse.

Typically though, that quick browse can turn into hours as one article leads to another, and another. Naturally, there have been internet games created based on this phenomena. The wiki platform has been used as, or as a basis, of numerous projects, organizations, and political causes. The recent press over Wikileaks is a demonstration of the amazing potential this platform has, and will continue to have.

Controversy aside over the reliability of the articles in wikipedia, it simply is a ton of fun to use, and the potential for one website to have all the knowledge and history of the world contained within, make for an exciting navigation experience.

I really hope Barty keeps this thread humming.

    My favorites would probably be:

    01. Netflix
    02. Match-Cut
    03. Wikipedia
    04. Youtube
    05. Rotten Tomatoes
I still enjoy the forums there.
    06. TV Tropes
A wiki limited to film/tv cliches. Insanely addictive.
    07. Google News
    08. Nintendo World Report
I only need Wii news, and this site's great for that.
    09. (various erotic websites)
    10. Behind the Name
Type in a name, get the meaning, famous namesakes. Great for naming characters.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

    5. Google.com

Let's put it this way: When I open up any browser, Google is my homepage. When I do a search, I only use Google. When I want quick news, I go to Google News.

In my car and on my phone I use Google Maps and Navigation to get me to places. I've watched an occasional hard to find lecture on Google Video. My phone is powered by Google technology.

The innovations and ease of Google permeate my life, but, most of all, it's the simple search I love. Especially Google Instant. I was skeptical, but oh yes, I love thee.

Sometimes I wonder how all encompassing google is. Does anyone know? I mean sure I almost always find what I'm looking for, I'm just curious how much of cyberspace is not unveiled by their search engine. Is the only content left out those kind of heavily password protected/secret sites?

I don't know, but it's pretty rare that I look past the first page. Depends on what I'm looking for, obviously.
