I watched one episode of Russian Doll and was completely bored.

However, Perfume is more my style. Anybody else watching it? I'm three episodes in and it's pretty compelling if you like dark, creepy procedurals. It's inspired by the book and movie, so if you're familiar with those, there's some fun crossover although the plot is completely new and set in the present. Friederike Becht is absolutely riveting as the lead investigator.

Had a similar experience with "Russian Doll." I wanna revisit because everybody on twitter cheers about it incessantly.

I was digging "Perfume" too. Appropriately grim and fucked up. And very German. (I swear, nobody else would think to intercut an autopsy scene and a sex scene in a television show.)

Then a few things started to bug me:

    [
    ]

But I'll probably finish it out just because. Agree that Friederike Becht is terrific; she was one of the reasons I kept watching as long as I did.

    - I couldn't for the life of me figure out why these people were friends as kids, since they had nothing in common and seemed not to like each other very much. Ditto for them associating as adults.
Yeah, this is a really good question. There's some sort of weird group sadomasochism going on there. Not necessarily in the sexual sense. But yeah, sometimes in the sexual sense. Like I said, I'm not completely done yet, so the overall verdict is still out. But it was fun to learn that the show existed.

Absolutely! I am a sucker for foreign TV and it's always a bitch to hunt it down. Netflix makes it easy to discover new stuff and they're always buying more shows.

Seems pretty popcorny Alpha Male cast, but I could use this kind of break in the dead of Winter.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I greatly enjoyed the conclusion of Perfume. I think it must be super challenging to create a satisfying 'whodunnit' that is pitched somewhere between too obvious and too arbitrary. Where they landed worked well enough for me considering how compelling the story was along the way. Irish's criticisms are fair: most of these characters are miserable bastards. However, I feel like the series is anchored by Nadja's journey, a haunting portrait of deep vulnerability masked by a tough exterior, and an endpoint that successfully calls to mind the source material without directly replicating it.

This sounds like slavery with extra steps.

If NBC launches it's own streaming service, we are an ABC streaming service away from being right back where we started with cable.

If I were NBC, I'd just take the extra $100 mill each year from Netflix as easy money.

Yeah really. Who the hell would pay for the networks? I know they have some signature shows, but not nearly enough to attract subscribers imo. Thats for the masses who probably barely use internet.

Well... in their defense... they do have the two biggest shows... ever.

    This is a good graphic

NBC is part of NBCUniversal. It's not just television. It's also Universal studios and their entire back catalog. Franchises like "Bourne" and "Fast and the Furious" would likely be part of the service. Universal also has a distribution deal with Blumhouse, which could be updated to include this platform.

If they follow CBS' model, maybe local sports too.

They also have a clear platform to making it much more obtainable than what CBS or Disney+ has with Comcast.

We are heading back to cable regardless. Cable companies might as well start offering streaming packages if they haven't been doing so already.
