I like Bamford a lot particularly because she always commits fully to her bits. She rarely breaks or winks after saying something outrageous, which even the most deadpan/in-character comedians can't help but do often in stand-ups.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
I like this paragraph from Nathan Rabin's review at the AV Club
"Self-consciously “edgy” comedians often have an obnoxious habit of repeatedly calling attention to their purported outrageousness. Of late, Ricky Gervais is particularly guilty of this: In his stand-up, Gervais simultaneously pats himself on the back and gives himself a playful little spank for being such a naughty, button-pushing little bad boy, when all he really does is take easy shots at vulnerable targets. There is none of that self-congratulatory nonsense in the stand-up of Maria Bamford, whose comedy is all the more daring for not constantly calling attention to how daring it is. Bamford doesn’t flatter her audience or herself for their courage in plunging headfirst into some of the deepest, darkest waters in all of comedy, stand-up or otherwise. She trusts her audience to follow her down whatever stormy paths her muse takes her. "
In case I haven't mentioned it here yet, Danger 5 is the greatest thing ever, and you should all be watching it.

Nope. What is it?
An in-depth documentary about the history of baseball. Really fascinating stuff if you enjoy the historical aspect of the game. It's even-handed, exploring the good with the bad. You get insights into the colorful characters throughout history, as well as scandals (gambling, fixing games, drug use, etc.) and the game's many years of segregation. Burns' style is very dry, but his scope is hard to beat.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

I tried the Star Trek thing. If you follow-through on that, you may just want to stop when you get to Voyager. Things get really rocky around there. TNG and DS9 are both worth watching, though. LOTS of episodes in each, should keep you busy for a while.

Ken Burns' The National Parks is my favorite.Quoting Spinal (view post)
But I then again, I really like just about everything he has done. Dry, yes, but endlessly informative and well made.
I'll definitely check it out- i should have been more clear in my ask though- I was asking for recommendations on the next series I should go through.Quoting Spinal (view post)
Yeh this seems like a big thing to tackle- but I've never watched a single Star Trek episode. Loved everything with Picard (First Contact is my favorite ST movie) and figured I could manage through the Kirk and cheese years.Quoting Spun Lepton (view post)
Also thinking about starting the Arrow but I'd rather not since it's ongoing.

Frankly, for me, TNG was much more enjoyable than the original series. Go back and watch the movies after watching the TV shows and you may find yourself underwhelmed by them. They play really loose with the characters in the movies.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
