Netflix revealed on Sunday the lead voice cast of Trese, the streamer’s highly anticipated Original Anime series based on the Philippine graphic novel created by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo. Filipino actress Liza Soberano (My Ex and Whys, Alone/Together) will voice Alexandra Trese in the Filipino language version of the series, while Filipino-Canadian actress Shay Mitchell (YOU, Pretty Little Liars) will voice the lead character in the English version.

Set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Trese follows Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld run by malevolent supernatural beings. Jay Oliva (Wonder Woman, The Legend of Korra) is executive producer for the series, which is produced by Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson at Jakarta/Singapore studio BASE Entertainment.

Netflix today revealed the stellar main cast for upcoming limited series Lost Ollie, announced in October. Jonathan Groff, Mary J. Blige, Tim Blake Nelson, Gina Rodriguez, Jake Johnson and Kesler Talbot will star in the 4 x 45′ live-action/CGI project from Shannon Tindle (Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline), Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment (Stranger Things, Shadow and Bone).


Lost Ollie is the story of a lost toy on an epic adventure, searching across the country for the boy who lost him, and the story of the boy who lost more than a best friend. A heartwarming journey to reunite in the face of all the dangers that childhood can throw at them. The limited series is inspired by the book Ollie’s Odyssey by renowned author and illustrator William Joyce.

I do enjoy binging once in a while, but there are just some series that are better at little bits. I kinda wonder why Netflix and other streaming services do not use that to create buzz around some of their bigger shows, anime and not anime? Or at least with the ones relying more on cliffhangers, questions, or etc.

I think the problem is that Netflix (and other services) tries to apply the exact same treatment to every show regardless of situation. Sure, there are shows like Violet that definitely benefit from binging and that's fine, however, shows (not just anime) that rely specially on suspense, fan theorizing and whatnot can be great at attracting viewers. Take a show like Beastars (of, for non-anime examples, stuff like Rick and Morty or Game of Thrones) that by presentation and themes alone was very likely to create a conversation and buzz... if you, used the simulcast model on a show like that, aggressively market it on social media and even, say, release in the platform itself extra content such as discussions between, say, animation experts or critics or whatever, you could attract a lot of extra viewers.
I mean, isn't that what Disney+ is doing with shows like The Mandalorian or Wandavision?


I mean, things like that makes me believe that sometimes the guys in charge of making the decisions aren't always familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of their properties and why they don't market them correctly, which can even lead to quality content being forgotten or cancelled.
