These are all terrible villains.
This is apparently shooting.
Reviews are starting to come in for Cap Marvel. Great cast. Uninspired origin story appears to be the consensus.
The few I’ve read have said they took the origin story formula and made it feel fresh again.
Skipping it. Sounds like the cat is the highlight.
So, in other words ... it's a Marvel movie?Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

Fury and Coulson = my butt in the seat
The severed arm perfectly acquitted itself, because of the simplicity of its wishes and its total lack of doubt.
Well, it's not Marvel, but it is based on a comic, and the adaptation of that comic may be outstaying its welcome at this point what with season 10 having been announced, but Samantha Morton is just killing it in the 2nd part of season 9. She arrives fully formed, as soon as I saw her my attention picked up. And she's cold as fuck.Quoting Ezee E (view post)

Currently 63% top critics / 84% general (lol rotten tomatoes)
Dunno how much those numbers will shift but I don't expect them to shift much.
This makes "Captain Marvel" the lowest rated Marvel movie since "Ant Man" and "Ultron" in 2015.
ETA: Metacritic is currently at 66/100
ETA 2: Looking forward to trans' reaction after he sees this with his wife on opening day![]()

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !
Ultron is my 3rd favorite MCU movie so these ratings mean jack shit to me. Im' very looking forward to the 90s nostalgia aspect.Quoting Irish (view post)
Eh, just got out of this and it will be towards the bottom of MCU ranking for me.
Midnight Run (1988) - 9
The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
Sisters (1973) - 6.5
Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5
Ultron is bottom 3 MCU for me and those ratings mean jack shit to me as well.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

I never understood the Ultron hate. I recently watched back to back to back Avengers, Ultron, and Infinity War, and it's so clear how real Whedon effect is when it comes to writing dialog in scenes. The interaction between the characters is the best part of the MCU. The drop off after Ultron is huge.Quoting Skitch (view post)
I get how the finale act might be a bit of a bore. But I love what he did with Hawkeye with the farm stuff, the party scene and all the scenes that ultimately allude to Civil War and Infinity War. There's a lot going on in Ultron.
Those were the things I've most seen people complain about. Those were far and away the best parts of Ultron imo. I had issues with tons of other stuff that...whatever, I'm not here to fight with you about Ultron, we've been through that, I just came to led my sword to anyone flipping the bird to the tomatometer.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Who's fighting? We're discussing. I'm generally curious on why you dislike the movie.Quoting Skitch (view post)
And actually, the lesser score actually makes me more interested in Cpt Marvel. Means we may be getting something different. Not trying to slag MCU with that comment so much as say I disagree with a lot of comic book movie hate across the board.
I should have said disagree, not fight. Ultron is no hill I would die on, either side.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
I'm with Duke here regarding Age of Ultron. I think Whedon was shaping to do something really interesting with the MCU but got burned out. Winter Soldier notwithstanding, I don't see the same standards of writing in the Russo Brothers movies.
What will the backpedaling be now that the critics weighed in and it's still not well-liked?
