THey say it multiple times. In Ultron and in Civil War. Thor lifts Stark up by his neck because of it... "use your words buddy"
Yeah. It a 90 second argument that happens after they catch him messing with AI tech for a second time.

Tony is directly responsible for a lot of deaths. When he's confronted about some of his actions, he behaves like a smug asshole. At no time in either Ultron or Civil War does he ever pay any price (this despite Civil War making that one of its theme).

I could have been more emphatic about the point, I guess, but the whole scenario is kinda fucked up.

    Quote Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
the reason why deaths need to happen is exactly what they've been building up across these movies.
Dude, these are Disney movies and little kids go to see them. I get what you're saying an in a different media environment (and a different studio), I'd be right there with you. But c'mon.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

What's your vision for the Christmas toy season?

Wheelchair War Machine -- with rolling action!
Paraplegic Widow -- now with a working colostomy bag!
The Hawkeye Action Figure Family Pack -- his children cry real tears!

I can imagine 10 years from now. Sullen, dark eyed teens, mouthing off to their parents, chucking rocks at cop cars, smoking in the classroom. "Fuck you, teach, you don't know me! I saw Captain America die when I was 8 years old!"

I don't believe that Marvel would honestly think of toy sales before they write scripts to movies.

    Is that naive?

There isn't a major media property out there that isn't immediately considered for merchandising options before one page is written and one frame is shot.

Also, look at the scripts Marvel has already produced. Half of these movies have had "fake out" style deaths, starting with the very first one. If they really wanted to up the stakes by killing characters, they had plenty of chances and every time they pulled the punch.

(It isn't just the toys. A lot of Marvel's characters are tied into all sorts of media -- videogames, comics, cartoons -- and some of them have 50 year histories. Nobody tosses that away lightly.)

If they kill a female superhero, they wouldn't lose out on any merch.

Or Warhammer. Or Falcon. Or Black Widow. But they still don't do it.

Having not ready the Infinity Gauntlet stuff but having a sort of understanding of what it is, I've very curious how shit is going to play out with Vision.

This still pisses me off to no end. Hence why my kid had the Nolan Catwoman googles/get up this last Halloween.

Thanos'll yank it out, he'll sorta-die, they'll win, mind gem comes back to Vision, he decides to leave because his nature is too dangerous.

That seems like the obvious play, anyway.

Yeah, I feel like if they killed anyone, it would be like Hawkeye/Vision/someone brand new to the series that won't have a solo movie.

It's probably saying something that they did kill a pretty major Avengers member and none of you even bothered to remember that they did it.

I didn't see any mention of him, because that was who I meant.
