Is this Spider-Man the 2000s Mask of the Phantasm?
I don't know about that (this one seems much sillier, which is fine, it's just its own thing). But I am encouraged that the leaden big-budget live-action movies aren't preventing movies like this, Teen Titans Go!, and The Lego Batman Movie. The latter is arguably one of the best Batman films ever.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Yeeeeaaaaah....sorry Trans, but not by a long shot imo. It used to be my favorite, but with every rewatch more and more fell apart. Batman straight up murders people. I still think Forever may be the least egregious of the Burton/Schumachers.

PS - Duke will you get a damn av already you naked bastard lol

I can totally see where trans is coming from. After the Nolan flicks (and not far behind them), it’s my favorite live action take on Batman.

At one point it was in my all time top 20.

Batman Returns is a visually excellent Burton movie that's borderline ashamed to be a Batman film, which makes its story an odd mixture of dull/dumb/toyetic Batman tropes commingled with Burton's fantastic carnival of the grotesque (back in 1992, when Burton wasn't self-parody). I'd agree that it's probably the best of the Burton/Schumacher era, if only because it's the only one where the production design, thick as it is, doesn't completely overwhelm the possibility for pathos.

The SNES game was f**king tight. Nice big sprites and successfully carried over the Burton style.

Possibly why it is the best Batman film for someone who doesn't give a shit about Batman. Batman murders people? I don't care. Joker kills Batman's parents? I don't care.

I remembe, now years back, reading Phil Lord talk about getting involved in this animated Spider-Man, and he said something along the lines of approaching it from a question of "Why animation?", and doing things story-wise that had never been done before with the character that maybe only this medium would allow.

And once I saw it unfold, I was like "Oh that's what he meant." It's beautiful, bonkers stuff. Their Lego Movie and Lego Batman are probably the closest comparisons of tone and ambition, in everything from all the movies' meta storytelling to their wide, sometimes trippy visual range, and especially in their often "so dumb it's brilliant" gags.

Seriously though why do comic books matter so much? Comics are kind of.... dumb? Please I want someone to explain to me.

EDIT: I mean, the storylines are dumb to me ... like the deus ex machinas and time travel and alternate universes and such. Certainly not the actual art that goes into them, which can be amazing, and I cannot speak to the characterization, as I haven't read enough to really comment on that.

Like, I know i’m going to be dumped upon for the previous opinion, but why does this whole super-retconning universe matter so much beyond nostalgia. I don’t get it. It’s infantile.

EDIT: Infantile is not the right word. Convoluted and (as a result) lacking in true stakes is what I meant. "Infantile" should be struck from the record. My choice of words was infantile.

Explaining comic books or explaining superheroes? At this point the fanbases for both only sometimes overlap.

Good teaser. Title revealed at end.
