    Top Gun 2 (Joseph Kosinski)

    Didn't see this coming...

Tom Cruise is also said to be making a return cameo as Maverick - so long as the role isn’t too “obvious”.

But surely the more important return star would be Val Kilmer, whose profile may not be what it used to be, but who has proved he’s still got it with films like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Bad Lieutenant and MacGruber.

They need to make it topical and address DADT.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Extended plane sequences in movies are almost always a bore. The original Top Gun was so dull during the flight scenes, I actually preferred the dopey cheeseball nonsense on the ground.

Can you imagine a Kilmer cameo, only keeping in sync with his DTV output of late?

I just like that the topic line of this thread is "Top Gun 2 (David Ellison)." Who the fuck is David Ellison?

Also, in keeping with Hollywood's retro-80s boner, why don't they bring back that quintessentially 80s genre of the cross-over movie? How 'bout this premise: Marty McFly and Top Gun travel back in time to terminate Gordon Gekko, who's done a body-switch with Big, and in order to avoid said termination until he can break the spell, Big dresses as Tootsie on a TV remake of The Untouchables? Featuring cameos from Mannequin, Fred and Ben Savage, and Judge Reinhold.
    Just because...
A Star Is Born (Bradley Cooper, 2018) mild
Mekong Hotel (Apichatpong Weerasethakul, 2012) mild
A Letter to Three Wives (Joseph L. Mankiewicz, 1949) warm

The last book I read was...
The Philosophical Hitchcock: Vertigo and the Anxieties of Unknowingness by Robert B. Pippin

    Now Tony Scott to direct
Cruise’s ‘Maverick’ wouldn’t, unlike the highly-successful original film, be the headline act of the film (which David Ellison will produce alongside Bruckheimer), Cruise only agreed to do the film after being promised his role would be quite limited.

What they will probably do is a have a homage/parody to the famous shirtless volleyball scene.

Well shit, there is a thread for this.

movie is called 'Top Gun:Maverick'. Will be stylistically similar to the original, even composer Harold Faltermeyer is said to return. Val Kilmer has started to inquire with Tom whether the Iceman is allowed to return.

    Joseph Kosinski frontunner to direct.

This was posted on Cruise's Twitter account a few days ago. I'm actually getting excited for it. Joe Kosinski directing, composer Harold Faltermeyer comes back also (!) and now even the Iceman himself has confirmed his return.

Likewise. I'm digging his comeback to making his own movies through high profile work-for-hire.

It completely sucks. I only started liking it this year, just because its such a flaming shit-pile that its actually a hilarious comedy.

Great, the sequel to one of the worst studio movies of the 80s gets one of the most annoying young actors of the 2010s. Hard pass for me.
