    Justified

A thread for one of the more intriguing new shows on television. And so that I don't get spoiled anymore.

Just kidding, Mara. You know I love you. I can't be mad.

I really like this format. It reminds me a lot of how Garth Ennis wrote his Punisher comics. Every story is basically a mini crime novel with a new protagonist, but there's a recurring presence who observes and solves the problems.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I just realized this series you guys like so much is based on an Elmore Leonard character from one of the few novels I read by him, "Riding the Rap".

I imagined the character a lot older than Timothy Olyphant.

Okay, so somehow I misinterpreted what you were saying about the blondes, and I thought you let slip that the femme fatale from the first two episodes died in episode three. Not sure where I got that idea, but after watching the third episode last night, I can see that this wasn't the case, and that you in fact spoiled absolutely nothing. My apologies for believing you did. And publicly admonishing you, even in a not-so-serious way.

In other news, I hope the premiere of Law & Order: CI was cause for the drastic drop in ratings, because I'm really enjoying this show. It'd be a shame to see it go.

So far I'm really impressed with the show. And it's rare to have a show feel this polished, like it knows exactly what it wants to be, three episodes in.

Or as they say in Kentucky, it'd be a cryin' shame.

That guy was always the only thing about Sex and the City I really liked.

    /three minutes in

Wait... I'm confused. The rich guy with the gas-guzzling SUV and ugly shirt who berates the receptionist, gets elective dental work, and hates quadrapalegics... are we supposed to like him, or not? Sometimes these deeply nuanced characters get me all turned around.

I thought what the "doc" did was hilarious. My mom looked at me like I was crazy.

Yeah, that scene was actually really funny. The receptionist being really bad as a fugitive is funny, too, although I'm starting to feel like most of the women on this show are pretty dumb.

The African American Marshall lady is kind of an interesting character, but she can't act. She comes off about as tough as a kewpie doll.

I'm not done with the episode yet. By the way, Rolly is Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Done. This episode was... okay. Wasn't feeling it too much until the shoot-out in the desert, which was pretty cool.

Wish they had stayed in Kentucky. I think they're filming the show in California now, so it's tempting to use it as a location, but one of the more unique aspects of the show is its... Kentuckyness.

I don't think she was dumb, just... normal. Everyday people are like that. TV shows tend to condition us to treat TV characters differently.

And I kinda like how you can never know what turn the plot might take. There's only two constants in every episode: Raylan will wear his hat, and Raylan will justifiably shoot someone. Everything else is up for grabs. I like it - I wait for each episode like it's a tasty treat.

If he shoots someone every episode, I'm going to get very annoyed with him.

By the way, wasn't the second desert shooting not justified? The guy was putting his gun down, right? Unless I missed something?

He tried to fool Raylan, and pulled the gun just as he was going to "drop" it.

Silly, silly minor racist character. I hope he learned his lesson.

Yeah if you watch it again, he pulls the gun up the last second before getting shot.

As someone who has a phobia of dentistry, that begining scene really wigged me out.
