    Oh man, so want.

    Prometheus screen shot? :P

I have a 40" SONY screen and an old inherited set of Yamaha speakers that I'll probably have to give away when I move in with my girlfriend.

You probably can't see it, but in a fit of pretentiousness I keep vinyls under my record player to the left, behind the speaker. I love collecting vinyl, and althought I've been neglecting the areas as of late, I have at least 10-12 that'd go for $100 if I decided to sell.

    PILLOWS FOREVER. Holy shit.

    Want hard.

I have a 26" television perched atop a fireplace with multiple game consoles and other cables running out of it. I don't think it warrants a picture being taken.

I hope not. I hate laying down to watch anything. I much prefer sitting up in a nice comfortable couch or chair.

I was looking for a VCR player on Craigslist... What the fuck's up with these people trying to unload theirs for $40-$60? Get real, man.

If they are S-VHS players that could be why.

I still have a S-VHS player hooked into my video editing setup. It plays VHS to look like DVDs.

Ah. Well, anyway, I just want to play some shitty quality old VHS, so the cheap side is fine with me.

I don't know why it happened, but I've suddenly started thinking about eventually moving into the world of projectors with accompanying screen for my entertainment purposes. In other words, not projected on a wall, but on an actual screen of monstrous proportions. This might be 15 months away as I move into a bigger house however.

It must be fantastic to watch a movie at home on such a screen. And the best part is that I've come to the conclusion that you can buy very good hardware without having to sell your grandmother.

Does anyone have such a setup or experience with it? I know a few things of course such as limited bulb life.

Be sure to set it up in a room with NO WINDOWS (or shutters that block all light). There's a reason why this technology only exists mostly in theaters. The tiniest of light will destroy the entire image and you pretty much won't enjoy watching anything during the day. The bulbs also burn out fairly quickly compared to other TV technology.

Projectors are not worth it IMO unless you're a millionaire and can setup an area like in the shot above.

    I have a projector, that displays 720p/1080i, and a 100'' screen.

I basically just set it up for special movie/game events.

It is amazing. It adds so much to the cinematic quality of movies. It's weird. Things just look more like a movie. Sven can attest, we watched John Carpenter's Elvis on it, and Tsui Hark's The Blade.

With only occasional use, my bulb has lasted 5 years. They are about $250 to replace. And yes, you need almost complete darkness.

The price of projectors has gone down, and their quality has gone up since I bought mine. When I bought mine, the people at Circuit City thought it was really weird. They didn't even sell units for home video use - they were only sold to be used as business tools, and thus they were not kept in the television department. Now you can get all kinds of versions for home theaters.

    I think around 1,000.

On my projector I can monitor the bulb's life as a %.

Makes sense. 1,000 ain't bad though if you just use it for parties and such. In fact, it's pretty great.

Now, if you use it for everyday gaming...

even that's not too excessive when you consider that it essentially gets you an entirely new projector, a big deal if you were very satisfied with the thing in the first place.

One thing though, older models get replaced by newer models, like it is for all pieces of electronics, but are light bulbs interchangeable?

Damn, you ain't foolin' around. I wish I had the space for something like that. And the time to set something up like that. And the energy. And the money.

Just make sure you have as many lights blinking in the thing as possible. Also, have a fog machine which activates when the door opens. Bonus points: have the IMAX song play when the door opens.
Losing is like fertilizer: it stinks for a while, then you get used to it. (Tony, Hibbing)
