It's choreographed by the same person. Duh.

I'd say it also has to do with the coloring and general atmosphere.Quoting number8 (view post)
Ya know, I’ve never thought about that before but you're absolutely right! Can you think of a better Superman fight? Spider-man? X-men? Go through them all. None of them are as epic and really depict the kind of power that exists between the hero and villain. Better yet, can you think of a fight scene that lasts as long as this one does? 10+ minutes?Quoting D_Davis (view post)
i think i need to rewatch this trilogy now.
If anything, The Matrix films are superhero films, with the origin, rise, and fall of Neo. In my estimation, they are the best adult-orientated superhero films ever made. And no other Superhero film that I've seen comes close in depicting the power of the superhero in the way that The Matrix films do. Of course I haven't seen many of the more recent examples like Thor or Green Lantern.
The final battle in Revolutions is incredible, and I think the film in general is unjustly maligned.
Long time coming.

Probably just the way the trailer is cut for marketing purposes, but that looks waaay more like a Yuen Woo-ping film than a Wong Kar-wai film.
My hope is that in the actual film, the fight scenes are full of sappy voiceovers, and the action movie score is replaced by a romantic pop song. :P

Wow. Some of that footage left me goddamn breathless.
Apparently Lau Kar Leung was working on this, too? Wow. So much hype.
Giving up in 2020. Who cares.

I can't believe Chris Doyle isn't working on this. That seriously bums me out.Quoting Stay Puft (view post)
In his place is Philippe Le Sourd, who has done some things, but of whom I know little about.
Here's hoping (the footage in that trailer is gorgeous as hell).
He's worked with WKW before. He's good. I can see why WKW wanted to make a feature with him.Quoting Fezzik (view post)

No need for subtitles, those slow-motion and wide screen shots were enough. I'm in. Can't wait.
Bumped again of course, but just by a few weeks for China.
But that still makes it a 2013 film now.

I miss when Wong Kar-Wai was semi-prolific. Too much to ask that once this one's finally released he'll have a quicker turnaround?
This film better be fucking epic. Even by his standards, the production time (plus post) on this thing has been insane.

Weinstein Company just picked up US distribution. Fuck, I hope they treat it like they treat WKW films and not like how they treat martial arts films.
Here's a new trailer.

I could live in a world where the Weinsteins engineer a Best Foreign Film Oscar for Wong. And maybe this means that it'll get distributed in the midwest...
The Boat People - 9
The Power of the Dog - 7.5

Oof. Still looking forward to it, though.

I bought the Blu Ray yesterday, but won't have a chance to check it out till next week (as I'm in Hong Kong right now, which is sort of ironic, maybe).

I watched an hour and a half before the Blu Ray started skipping like crazy but what I saw was pretty freaking wonderful.

Couldn't have cared less about the plot, as Wong Kar Wai half-heartedly goes through the motions of setting up the rivalries and the politics of kung-fu. Once it gets all that out of the way and settles on Zhang Ziyi's character, it starts to accumulate a little of the grace and emotion that characterize Wong's best work, and the last 10 minutes or so are surprisingly affecting.
Still, it just barely squeaks by as something memorable, and please, please, please for the love of God, enough with that stuttering slo-mo crap. Please!

So... In case you haven't heard, in the US, The Weinsteins have cut 30 minutes of "character stuff" from the film and the title is now Martin Scorsese Presents The Grandmaster.
