As I recall the first film had an extremely short amount of principal as well.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
I know prep is very important to shortening work load of principal, but Cameron seems to do a decade of prep to make a film.
Does anyone actually care about these movies?
I think they are way overestimating peoples’ interest in something that is 10 years too late.
Who knows what he'll introduce in the Way of the Water. We may see Terminators appear for all we know.
It remains to be seen whether the momentum can be sustained all the way to Avatar 5, there's a whiff of overkill to this new series and a director perhaps overplaying his hand, but there's no doubt they'll be technological marvels and a prime reason to seek out the biggest screens possible. I really think that certainly as far as Avatar 2 is concerned, it'll be an absolutely gargantuan success and that you're underestimating this.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

I doubt it will be as successful, but I'm also not betting against Cameron.

The first film came out a mere 6 years after Lord of the Rings and Hulk made waves with some of the first (nearly) photorealistic CGI characters. It also came out during a time when 3D was at its peak.
It’s been 10 years. You’ve got photorealistic CGI characters? Cool story, bro. Everyone does now.
The first Avatar only worked because of its technological innovations. In just about every other regard,it’s an awful movie.
Cameron has to have something pretty amazing up his sleeve, because good CGI isn’t the big deal it used to be.
I think Cameron will keep pushing the envelope in terms of what is possible although for sure it couldn't be as big a leap as what the first one showed us.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
The part I bolded is a blanket statement and possibly short-sighted. I don't think a movie can make a billion dollars and more if it's simply swanky tech. The story was somewhat simple, sure, and for us fine connoiseurs of cinema perhaps not quite nutritious enough, but the general populace responds to stuff like that. Even I have to admit Avatar was more engaging than oh so many of those soulless Marvel movies I've seen.
In any case, people respond to hype, they respond to a name. I think they'll come out in droves for Avatar.

All Avatar films delayed a year, likely to coincide with the Star Wars films. So now we will have Christmas 2021 Avatar. Christmas 2022 Star Wars. And so on.
Why, beyond schadenfreude? I'm very interested, very keyed in on Cameron getting to do what he wants to do on a massive scale because he's consistently shown his ability to make strong work in that arena.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

Because Cameron is an asshole?Quoting megladon8 (view post)
What, Hollywood is full of nice people otherwise?Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Because Avatar was a bad movie with a dumb concept and a boring universe, and the idea of 3+ sequels feels absurd.
It's becoming a bit predictable though I'd never want it to flop. It does sound like he's taken on more than he can chew.

Ah, okay. I thought it was a good movie with a pretty good concept that I really enjoyed watching so I'm down to see more. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also wouldn't like to see people spend years of their lives on something that doesn't work out. And I want there to be good, successful movies available so there will continue to be good, successful movies. I have this saying I always annoy my friend with: "I want them all to be good." I know not every movie is gonna be good, but I hope they are.

I'm not betting against Cameron. Thats an old story thats failed pretty much every time.
Isn't it crazy he has made the most expensive movie 4 times?? All four were studs at the BO.Quoting Skitch (view post)
Avatar was terrible, but he certainly seems to have confidence going into the sequels, so I'll hope these turn out well.
Hes a damn maniac. Maniac genius, I guess.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
