Oh man, I already have a region 2 widescreen DVD - my multi-region player is looking less and less useful.

I agreed that HD would make a big difference with Lost Highway because the movie is so dark. Dark scenes just don't come out very well on DVD even on a tube TV. I think I will pass on this purchase.

    Early artwork...

"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

    I hate lens flares.

Also, nothing will top the German cover art.

    Contagion (Soderbergh, 2011) - 6.5
    The Descendants (Payne, 2011) - 7.5
    Midnight in Paris (Allen, 2011) - 5
    Margin Call (Chandor, 2011) - 6.5
The Ides of March (Clooney, 2011) - 5

I make it a habit of never criticizing cover art, but damn if that isn't a disappointing cover for the upcoming release. I do agree that the German one is pretty cool though.

I'll be buying Lost Highway though. I'm pretty sure. Unless I have a change of heart come March and just Netflix it. I was reading recently that the transfer on the current Blue Velvet DVD is poor. Any truth to that? I've been considering adding it to my library for a while now.

It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.

I own it, and didn't think the transfer was particularly poor. You can view a comparison of screen captures from the various editions here:

The transfer on the latest edition of Blue Velvet was overseen by Lynch himself, so it better be good.

On another note I saw the trailer for Blade Runner Final Cut the other day, the transfer looks sooooo much better than anything I've seen before.
