    6. Moinette Brune (DuPont)

I'm pretty sure I said it before, but brown ale is probably my favorite style. Nut Brown specifically. The Belgian Brune is not that style of brown that the English and Americans make, but it's pretty decent. This version is nicely lightly roasted, and just a bit of sharp bitterness coming in from behind. It warms nicely, as I've been sipping it and playing my video games for the past hour. A decent finish to the night.

    7. Triple Blonde (Waterloo)

I've had plenty of tripel's in my time overseas, and this is another. The 2nd Waterloo of the season, and the second average beer to meet the style. I'd recommend this to anyone who can't regularly get their hands on a Belgian tripel, but I wouldn't call it a standout in the style.

    17 Beers remain.

    8. Nightporter (Bronckhorster)

Labeled a strong porter, this one isn't lying. It's heavy and potent. I can taste strong chocolate up front, with a bit of espresso and a lot of roast left behind the swallow. I knew I'd enjoy this when I caught the aroma upon uncapping the bottle, and it did not disappoint me as I took my first sip. This one is a sipper, with the high alcohol and chewy body, I'm glad to take my time enjoying it.

    9. du Bois des Pendus (La Corne)

I really wish I had that classware, as that's pretty nifty. This beer.... well, I don't know what's going on with this beer. I guess it's roasty, and it sure meets the black standard that's spelled out on the label. But, I'm really getting not much of anything overall. It's a slightly roasted hop water. I will say that I've had worse, and it's drinkable, but I really want my dark beers to have some flavor profile going on, and this one just doesn't.

    10. Black Forest Stout (Ketterer)

When I think of Black Forest, I immediately got to the amazing cherries and chocolate. Black Forest cake was one of my favorites before I moved to an hour and a half drive away from the Black Forest. Now that I've had them here, I'm not sure I can go back. I knew better than to expect the taste of black forest cake in a German beer, but I was curious as to what I'd get in this one. There is no chocolate in the malt, and definitely no cherry, but there is some toastiness in the malt, with a bit of a very slight smokiness. It's a strongly roasted dunkel, more than anything, and that's fine, and it's pretty tasty for what it is, but I really want a black forest cake now!

    14 beers to go.

    11. Gouden Carolus Classic (Het Anker)

I've seen this beer for ages, but I don't think I've actually had it before now. This thing is very sweet and malty, with just a touch of bitterness. If you're not a fan of strong sweetness in your malt, stay away! I happen to enjoy it, and may go head and add this to my normal rotation.

    12. Gouden Carolus Tripel (Het Anker)

In a twist of randomization, Gouden Carolus comes back to back, this time the tripel. At first I wasn't really feeling this one, but after letting it warm a bit, it's mellowed out nicely and some of the spice has melded into the malt to create a good flavor. I still prefer the classic, but this is a decent tripel, and better than the one from a few days ago.

    Halfway through the beers/season.

    13. Pecheresse (Lindemans)

Making the turn is this year's lambic addition. I've had some rough goes with sours through the years, but Lindeman's cherry didn't disappoint me last year, and the peach just ups the ante from there. This beer was (and I say was, because I split it with a family friend visiting for the holidays, and we both downed it) a very drinkable sour. I could barely taste the sour, as it really complimented the peach in a way that made it taste like a spiced peach cobbler. I might go buy some more of these, it was that good.

    11 beers to go.

    15. Toffee Apple Cider (Brothers)

I'm not the biggest fan of ciders, but I gotta mix it up from time to time, and this one looked the best of the selection on the shelf. I really enjoy the subtle toffee flavor, and the tart from the apple is a good combo. I almost wish I had tried warming this up a bit, and try it that way. I may try to in the future, but I don't feel it is a priority.

    16. Das Schwarze (Schawben Brau)

Another I forgot to post after I drank it yesterday! Distracted by friend/family in town. I might have had this in the past, maybe not. It's hard to tell when half the things out here have such original names as "schwarze", "helles", "Pilsner", "Weisen".... This was a standard schwarze beer, nothing really stood out as good or bad.

8 beers remain in this journey.

    17. Dead Pony Club (Brewdog)

A session IPA is not normally a winter beer, but in order to get variety and new things in the box, a session IPA is what we got. It's been long mentioned on this site that I am not an IPA person, but I've grown an appreciation. This one comes at me with some grapefruit flavor, and that's not a flavor I particularly care for, but here it's not too bad. I bit of floral hops provide the bitterness, but it's not overbearing, and at 3.8% this is definitely session-able. I might go back to this during the summer if I was pressed for options, but it's nothing extraordinary.

7 beers to go before Christmas.

    18. Tynt Meadow (Mount Saint Bernard Abbey)

My quest to have all the trappist beers has reached another checkpoint, as (I believe) the newest offering of trappist beer has hit my glass. Tynt Meadow just started distributing last July as the Abbey got into the brewing game. Their saying is that beer should be liquid bread, not colored water, and they've created liquid bread. This baby is thick and chewy and hits with an English maltiness rather than the sugary nuance of the belgian trappists. Right now I'd put this on the lower end of the trappist spectrum, but it's still a very good beer.

6 more beers to go, though Santa might beat me here at this point.

    19. Royale (Leffe)

This whitbread Leffe really packs a malty punch, going down like liquid bread. The malt is at the forefront with a good balancing bitterness that isn't overbearing. An enjoyable drink at the end of a long day out and about.

Not getting it done today, but pushing on, and enjoying traveling with my mom in town.

    20. Hop Head 7(Craftwerk)

This IPA is not one that I particularly care for as it is very grassy. But for hop heads, there is a strong hop that rides a decent malt base. 7 different hops give us the name, but it might be part of the too much grass taste that makes it a bit much for me.

    4 beers to go.

    21. Winter IPA (Lowlander)

Another forgotten post on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning, technically, as I had this one last night in the middle of the night. It was a nicely flavored, decently spiced ale, that really didn't have much of a hop punch, so hard to see the IPA in it. Pretty good winter beer though.

    3 beers were left.

    22. Hel & Verdoemenis (Brouwerij de Molen)

After a few ales and bittery beers, we're back to my speed, and this Imperial stout really packs the punch. Full of flavor and roast, chocolate, some sweet raisin, toasted malt and a nice sharp bitter. This is the type of beer I wish I could brew, but have failed every attempt at getting a good full body flavorful stout. A great beer to sip after celebrating Christmas with my family, even if I was supposed to have imbibed a few days ago.

    2 beers remain.
