    Inkheart

Saw this in front of Compass. It's quite strange. Haven't heard a lick about it even with the presence of Fraser and some others. Nice to see Serkis in an unabashedly silly/evil role. Nice concept for the most part, though by no means blindingly original. The wild, inchoate mish-mash of disparate elements of literature might work to its advantage.

Curious, but might be stupid fun.

EDIT: ROFL. Fraser's character's name is "Mo 'Silvertongue' Folchart"!!! I'm seeing this movie!

I know, but I'll give him a chance if the reviews indicate it is what I think it is: silly fun.

Even a Stephen Sommers can produce a Mummy.

    And. Deep Rising.

But also... G>I. Joe. Should we be excited?

Aw, I liked what I read of this one. I sorta' hoped it'd pass under the Hollywood book rapists' radar.

This caroms quite nicely into a discussion of whether worthless art can inherently or must necessarily lessen the impact and value of other work, even or especially if said other work is considered of high quality.

I don't think it does, myself. A separate argument is whether we should cumulatively consider an artist's entire oeuvre or whether we should analyze it piece by piece. This is made more difficult when the artist is known for being flighty and inconsistent (no one ever has trouble cumulatively praising an artist's work if it's all good).

If we're sticking with Sommers as an example, he's made some fun stuff and some shite (VH was shite with really fun stuff in the cracks). Though I know this, I can easily see him making something someday that's fun again.

Neat idea but the film looks beyond cheesy as hell. Still the cast is a good sign and it looks decently entertaining. I'm more worried about it becoming what A Night at the Museum was: fun for the first two acts and then really crappy and annoying for the rest of the film.
