    Christmas Music

I love Christmas music. I know a lot of people hate it, but it's the only thing I look forward to in December. We carolers outside our theater singing and I stopped everytime to listen. I'm not fond of any of the new stuff. I like most of the classics sung by Martin, Sinatra, and Crosby.

I can't think of another song as simultaneously poignant and hilarious.

Too bad they never play it 'round here. *grumbles*

The Charlie Brown Christmas album. We listen to it almost every day in December. I love it.

    Word!

The three primary albums I listen to are those (I'm counting them as one), Bing Crosby's, and yes, Virginia, Vince Guaraldi's miraculous Charlie Brown Christmas.

I used to love Christmas music. Then I did four straight Christmases in retail.

I probably give you a run for your money as far as Christmas music love goes...

For Unto Us a Child is Born - whoever (I personally listen to the London Symphony)
Do You Hear What I Hear? - Mahalia Jackson
    Sleigh Ride - The Ronettes
Ding Dong! Merrily on High - Charlotte Church
You Gotta Get Up (The Christmas Song) - Rich Mullins

And I still overwhelmingly prefer my Christmas music religious in nature...

Yeah. Despite the fact that I'm no longer a Christian, I much prefer my Jesus songs to my Santa songs.

Agreed. It's pretty awesome when someone with the ability to hit the high notes sings "O Holy Night". That song has a great build to an awesome payoff.

Oh, but as soon as the orchestra starts up and the flutes are flitting about as she runs up and down the scales it's just impossible to resist. You'll see.

It's the only Christmas music I can say that I still enjoy listening to.

"Christmas Time is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas and "Silent Night" are both irresistibly melancholic. Carol of the Bells and The Christmas Song are good too.
I am impatient of all misery in others that is not mad. Thou should'st go mad, blacksmith; say, why dost thou not go mad? How can'st thou endure without being mad? Do the heavens yet hate thee, that thou can'st not go mad?

Great list!! I especially love that you mention Carol of the Bells, if done RIGHT. That is my absolute favorite but I pretty much only love the Time Life Treasury of Christmas version. Every other one I hear stinks cause it's too fast or too slow or not haunting enough. I'm very picky about that song.

I don't like a lot of covers of christmas songs, but this is one I'm willing to say I prefer over the original. Kotaro Oshio is the man.

My Christmas music begins and ends with Ray Charles. For my money, there's nothing better.

I don't know if I've ever heard any of Ray Charles's Christmas stuff. This is something to investigate.
