I think I might have a virus on my computer.

I was just on MatchCut and YouTube, and all of a sudden everything slowed down so badly that I had to restart.

When I did that, and the system booted back up again, there's a new program on my bottom right taskbar - its icon is a blue and white shield, and it is called "Antivirus System PRO".

It won't let me do anything, claiming that everything I try to open is "infected".

I can't even get my control panel open to manually remove the program from my computer.

    I'm stumped what to do.

Here you go. Hope that works.

    Thanks Brightside.

Unfortunately the virus has crippled my computer so much that I can't even access the internet anymore, so I wasn't able to use that link (I'm at work right now).

I use Opera, and when I try to access any webpages, I get an error page stating "Internet Explorer Cannout Access this Webpage", and the rest of the message is poorly worded and full of spelling mistakes.

So yeah, my computer is royally farked.

Luckily a guy at my dad's office whom he's good friends with is a techie, and I could probably get my dad to take the computer in, have it wiped clean and begun anew.

I've gone ahead and transferred all my important files to my external harddrive. So I'll lose about 15g's of music, but that's really not a big deal.

Apparently, all of my e-mail contacts got an e-mail from me that contains nothing but a link to a site for something called "Canadian Health&Care Mall" and a long list of viagra and other types of pills.

    Fuck.

I almost have my computer built back up.

I anticipate having some trouble getting it back online. One thing we've had trouble with from the get-go is our router.

Woo-hoo! Computer is back up and running.

I'm installing tons of stuff now, but everything's basically here (save for the tons of music I lost, but oh well, I needed to get rid of a lot of it anyways ).

Thanks to everyone who gave me help and advice.

Mac Laptops have been known to have issues with their batteries. You need to take it in to be looked at or have the battery replaced. Or both. You have a fire hazard on your hands, son.
Luckily that turned out not to be the case. Still I must be more careful in the future. Maybe get the battery replaced eventually, too.

Is there a way to recover all the songs I had downloaded off iTunes without having to pay for them again?

I probably downloaded 30 or 40 songs. I really don't want to have to fork over more cash to download stuff I already paid for.

Yes, I am logged in now, and it says I need to pay to re-download the songs I lost.

If this is the case, iTunes has lost a customer.

Maybe it means you just have to re-download them to your new computer, not pay for them again?

iTunes saves the songs to your computer, not your account. The only way to keep the songs is to back them up to disc or your iPod, because if you lose the computer, you lose the music. Sad but true.

Other than screensize, what's the difference? I can't find too much, and the Mac Book is cheaper, but runs faster.

For fuck's sake, please help me. I've got Logitech Z-5500 DD 5.1 speakers (DTS is also supported) and I've got a Sony vaio laptop that, on the right side, has an opening called "Optical out."

And I've got this cable here to go from the laptop to the decoder of the speakers:

I get no sound however through my 5 speakers. I'd like to play Crysis through my speakers setup, but I don't understand what the hell is missing.

Sure, I've messed around in my audio control panel as seen here, but to no avail:

So what's the deal? Can I get sound through all the speakers using the above cable or note?

Alternatively, the speakers also came with the following cable:

I've got a yellow, black and green cable, but on both ends the same. Only question is I don't have these inputs on my laptop so....

Thanks for any tips that might help.

    EDIT:

The odd thing, is that sound is clearly being registered by the hardware, except I can't hear shit.

Was there any install software with the speakers or cable?

You may want to try a re-install.

Or go to the Logitech website and see if there are updated drivers you need/don't have.

Yeah, there was some install software with those speakers, but it seems like a long shot. I'll try the website.

    MacBook Vs. MacBook Pro.

Other than screensize, what's the difference? I can't find too much, and the Mac Book is cheaper, but runs faster.
Aside from the significantly bigger price tag, the MacBook Pro (I'm comparing the low-end 13" MacBook Pro to the MacBook) will allow twice the memory (8gb vs. 4Gb) and has more options for harddrives (including solid state drives which you can't get with a regular MacBook). It also comes with a larger harddrive (250 GB vs. Mac's 160 GB). They both have the same 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor set up.

So, that's what the extra 200 bucks gets ya. An extra 90 GB of harddrive space and more expandability options. Personally, I would go with the regular MacBook if it's a 13" laptop I was looking for. If I wanted a ballsy laptop, I would go with the high-end 15 incher. But then again, I could get the same specs less the portability in an iMac and save $500 bucks...

Anyone know anything about screens? I'm thinking about buying a 32" Philips 5404H screen. It's fairly cheap, and my friend who has one says it's a very decent tv for the money, but I watch a lot of soccer on the television, and I'm worried that watching soccer on it isn't going to be clear enough, or that the picture is going to be poor. Any advise?

How much you paying for it? If it's anything like on this site, I wouldn't recommend this purchase at all. Very expensive for a 720p TV. Is that the same model?

If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Yeah, that's the model. Problem is, electronics is an expensive thing here in Denmark, so yeah, I would be paying what would amount to around $550. That's cheap. I was mostly wondering if I should buy something bigger and better, which would also be more expensive.

I will not be using this screen for blu-rays or gaming. Just dvd, television and watching movies from my laptop via HDMI. It looks good enough for that, right?

If it were me, and the price wasn't too large a difference, I would hold out for something larger. I waited until I could afford a 51" and I'm always thankful I did.
