I keep wondering how little knowledge about computers is possible while actually using one, and the evidence keeps surprising me every day.
I never said I was good with computers, although your comment rings pretty true, heh.

I did some LMGTFY, and here: http://www.apple.com/support/mobilem...s_version.html

(not to mention the hilarity of Apple actually having this on their website)

    That's awesome!

Those Realtek drivers can give you a hard time, I've always had mixed success, especially on older machines.

Yeah, I think it was those that did the trick. I basically just downloaded the lot and made windows search for updated drivers. It worked, and I'm happy. ritch:

*Sighs* Man do I feel stupid  but thanks....

Huh, its a 10.4.11 OS. I imagine since I can't update FireFox, its outdated, but as long as I can continue to run FireFox and enjoy the Internet there's no need for me to change what works.

Yeah, you're running OSX Tiger, and Firefox 7 needs at least 10.5.
And I'm really starting to understand why Macs are so popular in the US - you can almost treat it like a household product, a microwave or something. It is to their credit that you can actually use it for serious work if you're so inclined.

Okay I got the following message while trying to load some burnt CDs:

"An error occurred while trying to import the file "Track 01." The current encoder settings for bit rate and sample rate are not valid for this file." WTF? Never got this before, and I've been able to load those same burnt CDs on my laptop previously.

Googled it to see what was up, and the responses are not encouraging. This is why I still hold onto the CDs I've bought over the years. Perhaps its time to just buy music off of the Internet instead, but then I'll have to get something to back it up aside from well, blank CDs.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

    It was just burnt.

And now I'm getting same error message after I just tried to upload a regular CD I actually bought. WTF.

Okay I monkeyed around with the settings, and I might have fixed this problem, or made it worse. We'll find out.

Hey dudes. Anyone know where I can store large files for free so that my girlfriend, who's currently in Botswana, is able to download them and watch them? She's in need of some entertainment as she ran out of TV series.

Preferably a website, not via FTP.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Might Icloud be the key? She's got a Macbook Air.

Dropbox? Places like Oron.com and Hotfile.com offer up to 400MB of free hosting.
    iCloud could work, too.

Hey guys, it seems that an mp3 count cannot exceed 100 on windows vista. Anyone familiar with this? Please check here

When I attempt to change this tag to 101 or more, I get an error message. Is 100 the limit? Or is there a way to do it?

    Thanks

Not really a support issue but since there's no PC thread, I'm putting it here.

    http://gizmodo.com/5897368/ivy-bridg...ing-next-month

Ivy Bridge processors will start hitting the stores in late April. Depending on the benchmarks I'll probably rebuild since my current motherboard is an end-of-life LGA 1366 and the processor is over 3 years old.

I just got my latest issue of CPU Comp Power and they were talking about Haswell. I love technology. Let me know when you start building. I'm still on Nehalem.

And I just recently purchased a new desktop PC with a Sandy Bridge processor (the i5 2500k). Oh well. You have to jump on some time, and the increases in performances will be negligible for what I normally do.

Okay, I'm fucking frustrated and fairly desperate and looking for guidance. What is the best way to rip my own DVDs onto my computer? I'm using HandBrake right now, but for whatever reason (I'm guessing encryption) it isn't working. I want to go completely digital and it's proving to be a much bigger pain in the ass than I thought. I know a few of you have experience with this (Davis, I'm fairly certain you do; number8, perhaps? ETM?). Can someone help me out.

I'm getting this message before scanning from HandBrake:

HandBrake could not find a compatible version of libdvdcss (32-bit libdvdcss is not compatible with 64-bit HandBrake and vice-versa). Please download and install libdvdcss.pkg if you wish to read encrypted DVDs.
I tried "Scan Anyway", which is an option, but the video was unwatchable after the encoding finished.

If you have the 64-bit version of HandBrake installed it looks like you need the 64-bit version of libdvdcss as well. Can you verify that? I haven't used HandBrake so I'm probably not much use.

DVD Decrypter was abandoned a couple of years ago, but it still works. I rip DVDs and then compile with them DivX for great compression and easy storage. Let me know if you have any questions if you try it.

Okay, HandBrake worked after the upgrade to libdvdcss. Duke, what I'm doing is trying to rip everything to an external hard drive, and plug that hard drive into my PS3 (or directly into a TV should I buy a new one that's capable) and have everything at the push of a button. I've noticed that MP4 seems to be the way to go as far as video quality, since MKV can't be played through a PS3. I wouldn't mind the file sizes being less than 2 gb, which seems to be the ballpark figure for ripping a DVD in MP4 format, but I don't want to lose any quality. Do you feel DVD Decrypter can do what I'm describing better than HandBrake?
