    Anime Series Discussion Thread

Because I've thought for a while that we need one.

To get it started, my favorite anime series as they seem to me at this very moment:

    1. Paranoia Agent
    2. FLCL
    3. Azumanga Daioh
    4. Cowboy Bebop
    5. Neon Genesis Evangelion
    6. Excel Saga
    7. Samurai Champloo
    8. Boogiepop Phantom
    9. GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka
    10. Ebichu Minds the House

I don't watch much anime, or television in general, but I did recently view the entire run of Berserk, which was pretty damn good. It took a couple episodes to get rolling, but as the political intrigue escalated the show found a compelling groove. To that extent, however, I found the supernatural elements periphery to the show's overall quality and just kind of uninteresting as a result. It does come together nicely at the end if taken as a visual metaphor for Griffith's abhorrent actions.

Susumu Hirasawa composed the music for the show, so of course I loved that about it quite a bit. Just amazing, beautiful music. A stark contrast to the opening and closing themes, performed by what band I have no idea, but the laughable attempts at English were a strange delight.
Giving up in 2020. Who cares.

did it already end? how many episodes are there? i'm always interested, but still wait for the series to complete before diving into it.

D is right. LAIN is effing awesome.

and i'm among few soul on this planet who doesn't get Cowboy Bebob.

LAIN is truly a great work of science-fiction. It is one of the most true depictions of the genre I have experienced outside of print media.

Beyond books, I think that anime represents the best of what science fiction has to offer.

For some reason, I decided to watch Lain mostly while nearly asleep. I should give it another shot.

Best Buy has all anime 50% off. I got Ghost in the Shell2: Innocence in a nifty tin with the score, and the complete GITS: Stand Alone Complex for about $30. Score!

Bleach is quite good. It has its moments of forehead-slap-ness, but it still is pretty interesting. You're right about it being a costly deal though.

I was wondering if there was a thread dedicated to anime here! I found myself to be a bigger fan of anime with a more serious tone, but a short list of my favorites includes Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Lupin III, Android Kikaider and InuYasha (thank you Adult Swim). I'm trying to get back into it after a long hiatus; from that short list and my preferences (as well as my taste in film), I was wondering what do you guys recommend?

If you like long animes that never end like Inuyasha then Bleach, Naruto and One Piece are all good in those areas. Another one people will usually go to is Full Metal Alchemist. Do the brotherhood version though not the first one. I'm about to start the original Gundam which I know Sycophant just finished and loved. If you haven't watched Samurai Champloo yet that should probably be next on the list since it's done by the same guy as Cowboy Bebop. One i really like is Great Teacher Onizuka. Trigun is a pretty decent 26er.

I actually prefer those with that do end after 26 or so episodes. What's the consensus on Death Note?

if you're doing 26 Samurai Champloo, Paranoia Agent is 13 and it is amazing, Neon Genesis Evangelion is very interesting, I haven't watched Death Note. Probably the next on my docket is Bucanno.

I found Baccano really uninteresting. Death Note is great.

I'm halfway through Samurai Champloo. I dig it a lot, but it's nowhere near the greatness of Cowboy Bebop.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is good stuff.
    Sure why not?

I'm currently enjoying Trigun. Mostly because its a sci-fi western but also due to Vash, who is more complex than the slapstick elements lead one to believe.

I watched the first three episodes of Attack on Titan and stopped. It didn't do anything for me.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

The new Mushishi eps are great. People should be watching that. They are ending the run with a film this summer.

Im watching Berserk: The Golden Age Arc 1 - The Egg of the King (on Netflix). So is this just a cliffnotes version of the series? Is it redone or just taken straight from the show? Its been too long since Ive seen the series, I dont remember it looking quite like this.
