    OK but we never actually SAW anything in the opening scene. Just flashes and quick cuts. I just assumed they were barbarians or some other woods tribe. It was just unexpected is all.

    The girl who was previously dead became undead and had blue eyes. It was brief yes, but certainly gave you the notion that something strange lives and happens beyond the wall, which the scene in episode eight confirms and expands.

    The dragons they referred to I thought were stories and the eggs I thought were komodo dragon eggs.

    I've only heard one mention of a wizzard and that was Sam when he joked he wanted to grow up to be one.

    OK but again I thought they were just insinuating the intelligence of people back then and maybe it was a barbarian carrying around the head of the girl but the kid saw and took it a different way.

    Yeah, I hear that. The second book was a slog. The third book, however, was my favorite by a wide margin. I have high hopes for the upcoming television season. I will say that the upcoming episode you're about to watch might be my favorite of the series so far.

    Well... for like 6 episodes Rob's army is just sitting there dormant. For 3 episodes we hear about the raid on King's Landing. And North of the Wall we are just getting lame filler episodes. Nothing is converging as fast as I would have liked it to.

    The soundtrack is also available. It's a surprisingly decent, moody standalone listen, because too often TV music dissolves into minute-long incidental pieces. I wish the show used it more obviously sometimes, it's pretty buried in the sound mix.

I wanted it to be a truly epic moment - wide shots, the burning of her clothes (and hair in the novel, but they understandably chose against that), the hatching of the eggs, the emergence of the "phoenix." It should have been more of a grand transformation of her character visually, I was left a bit unimpressed where I expected to be wowed. It was the closing moment of the season, afterall...
    My thoughts exactly! They missed a golden opportunity here to end the first season magnificently. I would have had the camera above the action looking down on the burning pyre with Daenerys looking up at the camera. Her dead husband's face in the frame surrounded by the three eggs that we see slowly cracking open and perhaps an eye peeking out. The ending as is was pretty anti-climactic.
