    HBO's A Game of Thrones

I thought we could use a thread for this show, because there is a lot of new info coming out these days about this series.

Here are some pretty cool photoshops some fans made.

And let's hope George RR Martin finishes the fifth book soon, so we can continue the story!

Well they will shoot the pilot at the end of the year, so then it still depends if the show will be picked up by HBO/BBC. When it gets picked up for a full season I think they can air in the second quarter of 2010. Thats my optimistic prediction.

I think a more realistic prediction is that we will probably see this show air in fall 2010.

What is this? A fantasy adventure for the small screen, but done by the always brilliant HBO?

Yep, it's an adaption of the book series by George RR Martin. It's a collaboration between HBO and BBC. Like with the Rome series.

I just hope they won't cancel this series too soon because of budget reasons like with Rome.

Apparently, they'll be using the same castle that appeared in Monty Python's Holy Grail, as well as the sets built for Kingdom of Heaven in Morocco. Sweet.

That is great! It is good to use existing sets and buildings than to build everything new. Maybe they can spent more money in other areas then.

Some great casting, and some worrying.

Iain Glen has been terrible in everything I've seen him in, so I'm worried about that one for sure.

But that's eclipsed by the wonderful casting of Sean Bean. What a perfect choice for that role.

Wow what perfect casting (visually) for Theon. I already want to punch that kid in the face.

I'm going to read this book by the end of this year.

It's a series of 4 very, very long books.

    So, good luck

But really, they're incredible. You should totally read them. I just don't know that I could read them all by year's end.

Oh, not all of them. I own the first one. That's the only one I'll knock out by the end of the year. I'm sure I'll end up reading them all, but not that quickly.

Oh, yeah, I suppose that makes more sense.

No need to be embarrassed. I could read them all by the end of the year, but I like to vary my reading and know I'll want to read other things in between books.

I hope you're as taken with "A Game of Thrones" as I was.

It's more like historical fiction than it is fantasy. There are elements of magic, but it's not at all a "sword and sorcerer" epic - there aren't dragons or demons or anything like that.

It's very cool, and Martin's a great writer.

I'm excited. I've heard nothing but good things. My nephew is a fantasy junkie and he was raving about the series. And with it becoming an HBO series, I couldn't pass it up. Plus I got the book for free on BookMooch.

I don't think that's true. It is a "sword and sorcerer" epic.

Screw this show, when's the fifth book coming out? I've been saving the fourth so I can read them together.

I've met a couple of people who said Martin died, but I honestly think they have him mixed up with Robert Jordan, who did die before finishing his "Wheel of Time" series.

As far as I can find, Martin is still very much alive.

I just hope he doesn't pull a Robert Jordan and decide this series needs to be 3000000000000000 books long.

I hope one more and it's done. A nice 5 book series.

I can't lie and say that the subject matter is all that interesting to me--fantasy is a genre that does not agree with me--but I'm glad to see underutilized Jennifer Ehle get some work. She rocks.
