Agreed on The Shield. Terrific show.
So, I'm on episode 8 of Boardwalk Empire, and the show feels like it's running out of steam. I found myself a little bored with episodes 7 and 8.

Religious science fiction is the best kind of science fiction. That's why Philip K. Dick is so great. All of his masterworks deal very strongly with religion.Quoting [ETM] (view post)
The inclusion of religious themes was what I liked best about BSG.
It gets better as it goes along (in the relative sense of the term, by that I mean season to season rather than ep to ep). This past season was probably the best one so far.Quoting Spun Lepton (view post)

Yeah, I'd put season 3 of Boardwalk up there with any of the other big dramas from last year.
I finished Slings & Arrows last night. The final season did not disappoint. I may have teared up once or twice during Lear.
I remembered that Burning Love exists and watched the first three episodes of the new season. It is still hysterical. I can't figure out how they get such great talent for it.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Robin Williams to co-star in a comedy pilot for CBS written and produced by David E. Kelley focusing on the ad industry. Not the news I was expecting today. As the article I read put it: Buffy meets Mork meets Mad Men.
Dipping into Alias again while finishing up a crochet project.
In 1x16, Dr. Maggie Walsh shows up playing... a sinister doctor who works for the government checking out paranormal stuff. That's, like, the weirdest type-casting ever.

Robin Williams on network TV. Have ye fallen so far?

Still wandering through Vegas. Still good without being fantastic. I continue to admire the casting, though. The dead kid from "The Zeppo" was in episode two. Mike from Breaking Bad was in episode three, in what I hope will be a recurring role.
Still, Longmire was a dusty Western with a craggy cowboy hero and good casting, and it got boring pretty quickly.

Watched the last two episodes of Sherlock last night. That ending was very annoying.
First episode of the first season was easily the best one, but Freeman and Cumberbatch make sure it's always entertaining even in its missteps.
Been watching Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. Had I never seen Buffy, I'd probably think it was very good. As it is, it's pretty good. Over-relies on its formula and gore, but still refreshing, especially in how forthright it is about sexual angst and cursing. That's Canada for you.
Vegas, episode 4: Ted from Breaking Bad
Vegas, episode 5: Greg Grunberg, Dewey from Justified
The casting director for this show is serious about television.

For the record, I'm not crazy about Quaid in this role. His main asset as an actor has always been a sort of irascible charm and wicked grin, and having him play a completely humorless lawman is sort of boring. He is also affecting a raspy, world-weary voice that makes Bale-as-Batman sound natural and breezy. I want to hand him a glass of water and a lozenge at all times.

there's are flashes of the irascible charm and wicked grin you're talking about. he's not completely humorless. i imagine the character had to take some time to adjust to being sheriff and he gets a little looser as the series goes along
I just finished episode 6 and he cracked a grin a couple times. I liked him much better. I hope he continues to relax.Quoting Acapelli (view post)

Man, I how forgot how good the Pegasus arc was on Battlestar Galactica. And how big of a cunt Admiral Cain is.

12 minutes into episode 7 and he has smiled three times. I think someone gave him notes! One time he and Chiklis grinned at each other and my overall show enjoyment went up 15%.Quoting Mara (view post)

Actually, this was the first episode that I really enjoyed all the way through. Great stuff.Quoting Mara (view post)
Unfortunately, we lost two recurring characters I genuinely liked. Still, if the show keeps taking narrative risks like this, I'm going to be a fan. Too bad it might be cancelled?

kinda bummed about the potential cancellation, but not really.
Yes, them. I love Michael O'Neill from when he was Ron Butterfield on The West Wing. Still, the change in dynamic will improve the show, I think.Quoting Acapelli (view post)

Weird. I was just informed that apparently ABC never bothered to release Season 2 of Better Off Ted on DVD, even though they've all been on Netflix this whole time.
