The producers of Party Down were pretty candid about this. Starz kept demanding them to put more sex and nudity on the show, and they didn't know how to do that with their cast and premise, so they just wrote episodes that took place at an orgy and a porn star party, literally just to justify having naked women walking around in the background.
I have never seen a show where the nudity was more out-of-place and uncomfortable than in Party Down. I would have enjoyed the show much, much more without it. The uneasiness of the show runners really came through: "HERE. NAKEDNESS. HAPPY NOW?" And we're all squirming and saying, "No, not really. They can put their clothes back on if you really want."
    ...and the milk's in me.

Even though it wasn't out of place, a lot of the nudity in Nip Tuck was very uncomfortable. (of course the exception being every scene with Kelly Carlson)

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I read that as Kelly Clarkson at first. That's one way to wake up.

Speaking of Ken Marino, I watched his web series Burning Love recently and it was legitimately funny. They got some great talent in the cast, too.

I never really noticed it too much, but it is true that those episodes were never among the best.

I will forever rewatch Steve Guttenberg's Birthday, James Ellison Funeral and James Rolf High School Twentieth Reunion. 60 of the greatest minutes of TV ever.

Oh, I noticed it. A very interesting and effective scene is from the orgy party where someone tries to hit on the woman handing out condoms, and she has a great speech about how demeaning this is for her. Like, they're going to show you her naked body, but shame you about it at the same time.

I read a great, long interview with the cast and crew of the show, and they got into some depth about the nudity on the show, and how they were sort of pressed into it, and Ryan Hansen mentioned the scene where he's inspecting a woman's... waxing? plastic surgery?... at close quarters. He said, essentially, he read the scene and thought it would be funny and fun, but instead the actress sobbed through the whole thing and he was supposed to be doing funny lines when he really just wanted to comfort her.

    So, that's disturbing.

I remembered it wrong. I looked it up. It was during the boob test scene.

RYAN HANSEN: When you read the script, you're like, "Kyle gets to do a boob test and he squeezes boobs! Oh, dude, that's gonna be so fun to shoot!" And then you do it, and the girls are, like, quivering and about to cry when you like touch their chest, and you're like, "Okay, I'm going to try it now . . ." and they're like [sobbing], "Okaaaay . . ."
The entire article, by the way, is fascinating. It's a long, inside look at talented people doing something they love but not having it work out. Definitely worth a read:

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Watched the first 3 episodes of Enlightened. This is a pretty good show. Has anyone seen it?
It's wonderful. Keep going. Be prepared for Robin Wright.

(I just created a thread about it, asking the same question)
I'm writing for Slant Magazine now, so check out my list of reviews.

Hopefully I'll have the energy to update my signature soon.

Hmm. I ended up enjoying Party Animals the entire way through. Other than Matt Smith's Danny, the characters are a grim, unlikeable bunch, but probably a more realistic sample of those who go into politics than The West Wing. Danny's forever crush is remarkably well-drawn as a woman who seems sweet and idealistic at the beginning but her careful machinations and manipulative personality very slowly unfold to us as the audience, even if the besotted Danny can never really believe it.

Until 15 minutes ago I had no idea the series finale of 30 rock was tonight. I'm even caught up and I didn't even think about it.

I'm equally pleased that this final season and episode were as good as they were and completely upset that it's over. Sad-isfied, I guess?

I was behind on the last few episodes before the finale so I basically watched the last five back to back. Couldn't have been a more entertaining way to say goodbye to it.

Also, the greatest of all tags. Perfect finale for this show.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

One of my favorite parts of early Alias (SD6) is how Sidney and Vaughan covertly meet while doing mundane, non-suspicious errands, like getting their cars washed, or practicing golf. It added visual interest to what were fairly expository scenes.

After being hounded by numerous people about it, I finally started watching Battlestar Galactica. Only watched the first episode of the initial mini-series so far. Not bad.

Ooh, very interested to hear your response. This is on tap for a rewatch for me / first-time watch with my roommate sometime this year.

I keep watching The Mindy Project even though I'm not sure I really enjoy it... but then, last night I laughed really hard at both the terrorism cold open and the double date scene. I'm hoping we're turning a corner.

I enjoyed last night's episode, too, although the show needs to trim its main cast. Morgan is a terrible character and the British doctor is deadweight. The show does fine when it gives its guest stars significant weight like it has been doing.

Did anyone watch the Michael Mann/HBO documentary series Witness that aired last fall? It's about photojournalists in volatile areas. I'm catching up on the DVR and watched the second episode about Libya and was blown away. The episode about Juarez was great too. Really worth checking out if you have a chance.

Finished season 2 of Slings and Arrows last night. Much funnier, and perhaps even better, than the first. Unless season three is complete garbage (and with them doing my favorite Shakespeare play in King Lear, I can't imagine it will be), this is going to be right up there with my absolute favorite comedies. Like Arrested Development, Freaks and Geeks level.

I think season 3 is the weakest season, but not garbage by any stretch. Sheesh, it is such a great show.

Yes. You panicking and buying the DVDs when it was removed from Netflix makes complete and perfect sense to me.

    Heh.

Bill Hicks was a Studio 60 cast member? Ridiculous.
