His career is definitely on the upswing since we started talking about him.
Heard a rumor just now Matthew Liiliard wants to sign up for the new m8tchc0t.ru.tv
Not sure if joking. [/Fry]Quoting EvilShoe (view post)
I wrote about Bron | Broen as recently as the last couple of pages of this thread. :P It's a brilliant show, one of the best I've seen in recent years at least. I'm guessing he'll play the douchebag journalist.
Tonight I started watching Spaced. One episode in and I'm already sad that this show only lasted two series. Pretty hilarious, but I was expecting that.

Not sure why fans are all OMG over the Belle and Rumplestilskin ship, but then again I'm only two episodes into the series. I really like it, though.

Between this and The Chicago Code, Shawn Ryan should really just head back to cable. Sure there's less money in it, but his shows may actually have a shot again.
But I almost finally watched the pilots for both Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue last night. I guess I don't need to now.
Network TV really can't seem to make anything but procedurals and sitcoms secure viewers anymore.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
In a perfect world he'd be prepping for Terriers season 3 right now.

And as cable/pay television becomes more and more popular, this will be even more evident.Quoting Henry Gale (view post)
Especially when four or five of the biggest cable dramas are some of the goriest, ballsiest shows anywhere. (Seriously, the fact that The Walking Dead basically has the best 18-49 demo on TV is as insane as it is encouraging to me. And things like Sons of Anarchy, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, True Blood, and Breaking Bad are all doing pretty damn well for themselves too.)Quoting Lucky (view post)

I think Revolution might be the only serialized drama to survive this year and it was so awful stupid I stopped watching after a few episodes. It'll go the way of LOST, however. Great ratings at the beginning but those who prefer their TV casual will dump in by the end of 2 seasons.Quoting Henry Gale (view post)
Bigger audience, safer bets.Quoting Henry Gale (view post)
@amberita I think Nashville and Vegas might be okay in the short term. At least, they're on better ground & not as shockingly stupid as some of the other newbies.
Yeah I forgot about those. I don't watch TV shows where it's permissible to wear sequenced cowgirl boots or shows set south of the Mason Dixon Line.Quoting Brude (view post)
Oh man I can't stop marathoning Fringe. Middle of season 3 now. Soooo good.
Really glad that when they introduced this alternate dimension thing, they reshifted the entire focus of the show to it. I dont even remember what the fuck S1 was about. I'm incredibly impressed with how there's very little filler episodes in S2 and S3, if any. Every mystery of the week add up to the larger plotline. That's good TV writing, especially with 22 eps a season.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
On a larger note, though, I'm really annoyed that this is a pattern with a lot of the genre shows I like. I can only assume that it's networks wanting shows to start with episodic throwaway "procedurals" rather than immediately go into deep serialized mythologies and difficult questions involving "out there" sci-fi ideas. I suppose it works, since these shows survive for 6-7 seasons, but fuck, what a commitment having to slog through the first seasons of those shows.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
@8 The craziest thing watching that show, I got more attached to the people in the "other" universe than those in the "real" one.
They also did a crazy good job making the alternate world feel familiar yet alien and threatening at the same time.
I suspect that season 2-3 run is vastly underrated and underseen.
I think that's pretty obviously deliberate. The show's giving more about the alternate versions' personal lives than the regular ones. Makes it more complicated than having them be the evil mirror universe.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
Thos crazy bastards went even further - they went back to most of those throwaway weekly stories from S1 and actually incorporated them into the big picture in S4. Even the really weird ones.Quoting number8 (view post)
Third episode of Misfits S04 was sooo good. Three Rudy's, no Seth, character development from the new characters and two psycho women.
I hope they can keep this up. I might even say I prefer Rudy over Nathan. Guy playing him is terrific.
