The Torchwood miniseries "Children of Earth" has started on BBC last night. It's in fact the "season three" of the show, an experiment with a five part story over the course of a single week. So, you know, go get it online. It will air later in the US.

EDIT: I think they censor the show on BBC America. I'm going to try and find it online.

Actually, after What They Did at the end of last season on Torchwood, I find myself unaccountably nervous. I'm going to watch it, don't get me wrong. But I'm nervous.

Well, Maureen Ryan has seen three out of five parts and she's been literally raving about it:http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune....d-davies-.html

Man, talk about shows that came into their own. The first few episodes of Torchwood were so unpromising, and it's always had uneven moments, but when it's on, IT'S ON, and there's nothing better. Hot damn.

    Yeah, it's awesome.

Apparently, they're trying to make it friendly for those who have never watched the show, but the don't spend too long explaining themselves. Get right to business.

Yup, the soundtrack kicks right in and we hit the floor running.

But holy crap, yeah, talk about awesome. I think part two should already be available, or will be shortly.

I'll have to check that blog out.
First time I noticed him was as a villain on this ok-ish show called Kidnapped. Always nice to see him in live action stuff.

He played one of my favorite film characters, Simon Grim, in Hal Hartley's Henry Fool. I've followed his career ever since.

Been blowing through a bunch of neglected cable shows this summer on DVD and the interwebs, most recently Party Down. Anybody else catch the first season of this? Pretty consistently funny stuff, and with a great cast - Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan. Too bad its on Starz.

I watched the first season through Netflix, and I thought it was great. I'm looking forward to the next season. I hope that Jane Lynch being replaced by Jennifer Coolidge isn't permanent, although Coolidge was good as well.
    Contagion (Soderbergh, 2011) - 6.5
    The Descendants (Payne, 2011) - 7.5
    Midnight in Paris (Allen, 2011) - 5
    Margin Call (Chandor, 2011) - 6.5
The Ides of March (Clooney, 2011) - 5

Agreed wholeheartedly, I've heard some others say that they found the show picked up steam in its second half, but it really felt like something was missing after Lynch left. I haven't seen Glee yet, but it better be damn good if Lynch is committing to that instead.

Coolidge was ok, but she was no Lynch.
According to this, season 2 might have a new character replacing both:

Producers just released a casting call for a new series regularby the name of Lydia. Party Down casting directors want to find someone who is (a) any ethnicity but white and (b) at least 38 years old.

The character of Lydia is described as "a recently divorced stage mom who has moved out to L.A. from a small town with her daughter and is very upbeat and optimistic about breaking her daughter into the industry. As a newly single woman adrift in the big city, her thoughts are never far from the matter of reeling in a new man, but things never seem to work out. Her constant love troubles never get her down, it just means more to talk about with her Party Down colleagues..."

Done. Better than the first day, I thought. It slowed down and started having some real fun... and why not? We love the characters, we love the premise. It's scary and funny and fantastic.
