How long it took me to realize that "Jacob" is also probably the real name of "Jake" Peralta: two days.

Netflix is adapting A Series of Unfortunate Events into a series, making it their first live-action family show.

I love that this is actually in the press release:

“I can’t believe it,” Snicket said, from an undisclosed location. “After years of providing top-quality entertainment on demand, Netflix is risking its reputation and its success by associating itself with my dismaying and upsetting books.”

Netflix went on to say, “Mr. Snicket’s participation will be limited, given his emotional distress, but the project has the full involvement of his legal, literary and social representative Daniel Handler, who is often mistaken for him.”

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

That is an excellent idea. The live-action one from a few years back was a well-intentioned misfire that completely lost the charm of the series. It needs time for world-building and running gags/clues which I think a series could provide.

Hell yes to this. Just binged both seasons. The pacing is terrific, the acting is stellar and the subtext is super rich. One of the best seasons I've seen this year, which is saying a whole lot.

Doctor Who's playfulness and endearing weirdness is occasionally met with an episode that just tanks. The Unicorn and The Wasp is a perfect example of this. So silly and over-the-top at times that it manages to destroy its tenuous sense of disbelief suspension.

    Still. Love this freakin' show.

Surprised there's not a thread on this quite yet. On the last episode now and it's certainly more considered and earnest than any mini-series in quite a while. Everything is top notch; however, the acting is superb. Can't imagine a better cast than the one assembled here.

Pretty surprised to find out the guy who plays Daniel is Australian. One of the best TV performances ever. He's so compelling in every scene.

Can't imagine this show with Walton Goggins in the lead, who's great, but has such a distinctive look that it's difficult to see him in this role.

Consistently engaging, terrific acting and clever direction. Probably the best comedy of the season.

Haven't seen any of American Horror story since the first couple episode o the first season but decided to give Freak Show a go because I miss Carnivale.

A lot of the first episode was pretty stupid (Bowie?) but, even though scary clowns is a complete cliche, that clown is legitimately scary.
The clown's backstory was super dumb. Nazi snuff porn aspect is even dumber. This show is not good. Still kind of enjoying it.

Yeah, I'm watching and at this point I could almost call the show a guilty pleasure. Not good, just very entertaining.

I have been making do with other sources but they don't have subtitles which was killing me. I am watching the finale tonight!

Up until this point, I would say it is weaker than the first season, but not bad by any means. I'm still really into it.

Is anybody else watching American Horror Story: Freak Show this year? I just blasted through all the current episodes on my DVR. It's still absurd, sure, but it's shot incredibly, the cast is awesome, and the knowledge and passion that Falchuk and Murphy have for the horror genre shows in every frame. It's probably my favorite season of the show so far.

I'm watching. It's my least favorite season so far. I like Lange, Paulson and Peters but I'm getting sick of them at this point. I really hope they change up the cast for season 5.

I'm also done with Marry Me. I wanted to like it but it's just not a good show.

Yeah, I still like it quite a bit. This last episode was pretty awful, but the preceding were all strong. The Annicursory episode had me laughing out loud at several points.
