    The TV Discussion Thread

Why? Because it's better like this.

Post any random thing you want (just make sure it's TV related).

I like TV. Always have. Always will. I like it better than books and music. That's kinda wrong, but that's how I roll

I've been burned too many times. The shows I get hooked on end up canceled with or without tidy endings.

I do regret letting Deadwood slip by, but other than that I can't think of any other great shows I've missed out on.

I've been watching NYPD Blue this past week (I'm nearly done with season 2) and I'm shocked at how good David Caruso was. I know it's quite "the thing" to dismiss this show and wank over Homicide: Life on the Streets (a show I also loved, at least until it got ridiculous) but I love it.

I'd like to try watching Hill Street Blues sometime, too.

NYPD Blue is not bad, but its long running and network status gave it a Law & Order rep and staleness later on. Hill Street is much better for sure.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I've been watching a lot of QI recently. Stands for Quite Interesting. It's a British panel show, hosted by one of my idols and man-crushes Stephen Fry, in which he and a handful of other comedians (always included is the inestimable Alan Davies) talk about things that are quite interesting. It's amazing, hilarious, and you learn things. I wish more US television was a celebration of knowledge, rather than simple trivia games with cash prizes.

And I've got Jeeves and Wooster in the Netflix queue coming up.

And I'll probably look into buying some Fry and Laurie.

The British, Fry in particular, definitely know where comedy is at.

I caught this show when Nick at Nite was good and I really enjoyed it. I liked it much more than I did Newhart.

I love Stephen Fry with every fiber of my being; the complete Jeeves and Wooster box-set is among my most cherished possessions.

This is my particular favorite Fry & Laurie moment.

Don't know if this was posted already (the episode is from September), but the disgusting To Catch a Predator apparently hit an all-time low:

    Has anyone here seen Damages?
I caught the first episode on TV just now, and must say I'm extremely interested to see where this goes.
The protagonists seem interesting enough, and are played by two actresses whose work I enjoy: Rose Byrne & Glenn Close. (Close mainly because of her work on The Shield).

I was fearing for some Devil Wears Prada type of show, but this is a lot darker show I expected. That much is evident from the first frame of the pilot.

I'm usually not interested in lawyer hijinks, so luckily this show is more about exploring the darker aspects of human beings.

Could be that it derails completely, but right now I'm impressed

    -----------

A show that seems to have derailed completely is My Name is Earl during its second season. I've always been a minor fan (I kept watching mostly because I enjoy Jason Lee's work), but this season is pretty much devoid of laughs.

I have also realized I pretty much hate Randy. Not a fan of the comedy his character brings to the show.

I loved the second season of My Name Is Earl, and I think its better than the first season. Also I can't say I agree with about Randy-he's usually the funniest element of many of the episodes, although he's best when used in small doses.

This would imply that My Name is Earl was ever on the rails to begin with. Which it wasn't.

It always was enjoyable at best, but now not even that.
I mainly kept watching because I think it has a great premise, which is what it has been unable to follow. (Hence the derailment). There's really not that much attention to the list anymore.

But yeah, it's a show I could easily live without. I watch it on TV here (since television is such a wasteland sometimes), it's nothing I'd "obtain" otherwise. Been skipping on more and more episodes as of late.

Have you continued with Coupling yet?

The season finale of Ashes to Ashes was actually pretty good, despite a terrible "emotional" speech by Hunt.

Still: come back to us, Sam Tyler.

It's really sad that Bruce Campbell is rarely utilized for this dramatic acting. He played very serious roles in X-Files and Homicide and were fantastic in both roles.
