It's included as an appendix. There are dozens of literary references throughout the series. Some are more obvious than others.
I vote Olyphant.

Deleted my response expressing initial hesitation. Still hesitant (Howard? Roland a Spaniard?), but we'll see.
I mean, come on, regardless of who they cast, is there any way they're clearing the hurdle that is Ron Howard's mediocre direction? My intuition is no.

I'm pretending that someone else is directing.Quoting DavidSeven (view post)
Can you imagine the awesomeness of these movies being directed by John Hillcoat?
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
It seems that Javier Bardem is nearly locked in to play Roland.

It will be revived eventually again. Just like Robocop and Akira and Oldboy....
Back on as an HBO series. Bardem apparently still attached. But they're still looking for a studio to make a movie too.
Weird fucking development.

WB is now in talks to bring this back to life.
And now Bardem has left the project!

But Russell Crowe is in!Quoting Morris Schæffer (view post)
Unless they get a good director to helm this, just let the project die. Seriously. Oh and of course the cast has to be spot on, and the talk of changing the race of one of the key characters needs to end, now.

Rumor of the day:
Series may be a Netflix exclusive with Liam Neeson.
Rumor of the last two days: Aaron Paul may be playing Eddie DeanQuoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Normally I don't care about these casting speculations but...Aaron fucking Paul.
I feel like Aaron Paul is attached to everything lately.
Seriously. I'd never thought of Neesons before, but Paul seems such a natural fit to Eddie. And now I'm thinking about Eddie Dean. And now I'm realizing it's been years since I reread the series.
