Her father is sick and needs someone to take care of him regularly, so she chose to work on a multi-camera sitcom instead, which is a significantly lighter workload than a single-camera comedy like Community. I won't miss Shirley. The show has always struggled to accommodate her, and most times I end up simply not buying it, as she plays like a stereotype of someone's broad impression of how a Christian black woman acts. The few times an episode's centered on her, the show has more luck making her work, but as a member of the gang, not so much.
