Is the search function broken?
I typed in "Follows" for thread title and nothing comes up.
No, it isn't broken. It's just limited.
vBulletin searches are simple. Words only. No phrases. No booleans.
This site runs off mySQL, and I'm guessing it's set up to do basic myISAM full text searches, which means:
- Search ignores any word less than 4 letters.
- Search ignores certain "stop words," ie common words that would return too many results, like "because" and "when." (There's a list of them here if you're curious).
The search function won't find "It Follows" because "it" is less than 4 letters and "follows" is a default stop word. That's why your search returned nothing. Both your terms were eliminated before they were even run against the database.
Correction: It's 4 letters, not 3. You'll run into the same problem if you try and search for "Spy" (Paul Feig's comedy) or "Her" (Spike Jonze's sci-fi thing) based solely on their titles.
Also, search can't tell anything from context. "S.H.I.E.L.D" is not the same as "SHIELD" (and will return nothing, because for practical purposes you'd be trying to search on individual letters, which will be ignored). Likewise "Man from U.N.C.L.E." would run into similar problems.

Is there any way you can change the search parameters so I can search for a post with a keyword and have it display the post, rather than the thread?
For some of our bigger threads, the current search function is useless.

We can also probably start hiding the older year forums too like we do the Battle of the movie characters forum.
Maybe only display the last 5 years on the main directory, and put the 2012 forum inside the General Film Discussion?

My suggestion: Display three most recent years (e.g. 2017, 2016, 2015) and then create a forum immediately below called something like "Film Database Archives" or "Years 2012-20xx" and stick the older years in there as subforums.
