Indiana Jones 5 is officially a go!!

Yeah, I'm excited even if I wasn't crazy about the last installment. I guess any new Indy movie is a chance to recapture the glory days of old.

The hat is officially out of the bag. On Monday Shia Labeouf let slip that a follow up to Indiana Jones And The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was on the cards and now Frank Marshall has pretty much confirmed it, suggesting that Indy V is at fast approaching the pencil-chewing script development stage.

Marshall told Empire that ideas for a script are being worked on with a view to green-lighting production sooner rather than later. "It's really about the script," says the veteran Indy producer. "Once we see that, we'll see. We're not going to wait another 20 years. We'd all love to make another one. I'm anxious to hear the idea!"

But are Mssrs. Spielberg, Ford and Lucas equally sold on a fifth outing for the whip-cracking archeologist? "Yeah. We had a great time making the last one and, as Harrison said, we need to make this one soon. We're not getting any younger."

With Ford fast approaching his 67th birthday, time is definitely of the essence. Up may have raised the bar for the ageing adventurers, but Indy showed signs of creakiness in The Crystal Skull and it's safe to rule out too many rolling boulder chases or collapsing rope bridges from a further sequel. Hopefully the same goes for the gopher.

One caveat to all this is the lack of a concrete idea. As Marshall told us: "Until there's a script, nothing's definite. I haven't heard the idea." Here's your chance to play George Lucas and post your most mind-bending McGuffins below...

Seems to me that if Lucas has really moronic contributions to offer, Spielberg and rest should have the balls to put a stop to that man. Or does Lucas have the final word?

I'm just saying it could indicate that Spielberg didn't really care enough to at least question some of the ideas thrown around by the other beard.

In an 2007 video, Spielberg did say that Indy IV was "made for you. We made this for the fans."

I'd rather he made it for himself.

I wonder what message he was trying to convey to the fans, in that case.

I must also say I hope Shia LaBeouf has a bigger role this time around.
Boy, did I love his antics.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Lucas is Indy's co-creator. He does have a say on it. That's why IV took so long to finally get made, because Lucas kept shooting down scripts.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Funny, I just caught the Indy-rape South Park episode last night. Not getting my hopes up for this one at all.

Oh, by the way, I should have mentioned this sooner. This movie is in no way a go.

What'd be a fun relic for new hero Mutt Williams to find? The Spear of Longinus? The Tree of Knowledge? The Tooth of Buddha? The Sword of David?

    EDIT: Short Round kicks ass.

Yeah, I think there should be a perma-ban on anyone who doesn't like Short Round.

A movie that irritates on purpose remains irritating.

there are movies that have done this well. where a character annoys the protagonist but not the audience. in fact makes the audience laugh. temple of doom is not one of those movies.

I'd be more excited for that than most sequels. Remo was a staple of my childhood, I still remember it vividly even after well over a decade. The obstacle course he used for training was the shit.

Yeah, well, I still like KOTCS better than TOD. So, um there! Ah hah!

Damnit I got nuthin'. And yes of course Raiders is the best in the series. Easily. Last Crusade is awesome, and TOD and Skull are fairly rock solid/reliable. Now I'm wary of a fifth installment, because fifth installments in a series usually suck or aren't very good.

I take great offense to that. The pig is clearly cleaner than I am.

    Wait damn minute...:|

PS: There are people on this site who don't think Raiders is the best of the bunch. Or don't like Last Crusade. Scold them instead.

I apologize for making the metaphor so pungent, but know that I was just joshing you. You should've been harsher to me - I'm one of those wack-jobs who adores Temple of Doom. And I mean adore. As I said earlier, I'd go see a fifth one if Short Round came back. Technically he's at a good age to help Mutt...

For what it's worth, I objected to Spinal yesterday criticizing Raiders for its mislead about Marion dying, which he thought was poorly done. I offered a counterargument.
