    Cop Out (Kevin Smith)

    Staring...

Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan, Seann William Scott and Adam Brody

Scott is playing a thief called The Shit Bandit who steals memorabilia and Brody looks to be playing the straight man, a detective along for the ride with Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis as they try to solve a case about a valuable stolen baseball card

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

This project sounds weird. I hope it's Smith branching out and taking some risks beyond his comfort zone, but it probably isn't.

    Meanwhile, WTF Willis.

The title alone shows that Kevin Smith isn't straying too far.

I like the concept of the shit bandit, though. When I think about it generally, it's kind of interesting. When I think about it as a Kevin Smith movie, it's kind of boring.

Oh, because dicks can be detectives and penises and two detectives make for a mystery whereas two penises are gay. Fuck you, Kevin Smith.

Some of you probably know this, but it should be mentioned that this is going to be the first time (outside of Reaper) that Kevin Smith is directing a script he didn't write.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

First film written by two guys named Cullen, TV writers.

Funny. I thought that Smith's strengths would be more in writing than directing, so I would've figured he'd try this the other way around.

He did. Superman, remember? He's also done uncredited script work before, punching up dialogue in a few comedies.

He's always questioned his own directing skills and he'd be the first to admit he's no good at it, so I guess he's kind of doing it to really prove it one way or the other. Also, his approach to directing is inorganic. He's said once that the way he does it is that he sets up the camera, he yells action, then he hopes that the actors would say the lines the way he imagines it in his head when he was writing it. Which is... not good.

Trailers structured like that usually only go towards shitty movies. So...let's see.

That title is funny on multiple levels though.

Kevin Smith's entire career has been dumbed down. I'm not sure how much further he can go.

@ThatKevinSmith Via @ScooterBeanbag "did you get to edit together the trailer too or is that all on WB?" Nah - I can barely make a movie, let alone sell it.

    Yeah.

EDIT: Just go on Twitter and read everything. He's doing a Cop Out Q&A right now. He's well aware that the trailer is fucking awful.
