I just watched the three Mad Max films two weeks ago, with the original one being a second watch. First was about a decade ago when I was still a very young teen roaming around Blockbuster's VCDs, and I was reminded rewatching the first film why I never continued to the later installments then. A shame because I would have been crazy about The Road Warrior at that age.

Watched the first Mad Max last night. It was like seeing it for the first time as I'd only seen it once before as a young kid. Didn't remember any of it.
It's pretty great. Awesome pacing, a terrifying villain, unflinchingly violent while actually showing very little.
Also cool that the new Scream Factory release has reinstated the original Australian audio, rather than the Americanized dub.
Great stuff. Based on my memories of The Road Warrior (which I am also going to rewatch as it's been years), this may be my favourite of the bunch.

Glad to see some love of the original. It irritates me when its immediately dismissed just because it has a great sequel.

The Road Warrior is still kind of meh. Much prefer Mad Max.

The only real continuity is that the first Mad Max is the origin of Max the Wanderer, and all others are basically campfire stories about his other adventures. So the "same Max," but it doesn't really matter.
I think of it like how painters return to the same subject but paint it in different ways.

There's a fairly prevalent fan theory that Max in Fury Road is the feral kid from The Road Warrior.
