I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Apparently this is going to be live-action, instead of the 3D anime that he originally had planned. I have to say, I'm relieved.

Well, I wouldn't say Hollywood - Miller's been trying to do this film for almost seventeen years, ten for the screenplay they've decided to use. It was just on the verge of shooting in Iraq before war broke out, which is why he moved on to Happy Feet.

Also, shouldn't it be Mad Max 4?

    Just a thought.

Oh, and 'gee, I wonder what this bodes for his sequel to Happy Feet,' but that's a given. Hopefully, that will follow suit and lose the 3D aspect.

No, as of now Miller has said that Gibson has no interest whatsoever in the project.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

Road Warrior 4? So, what, Mad Max 5?

Well, I think that - for the time frame he wants to place this installment in, which is just after Thunderdome, I believe (although there's a draft circulating that takes place some 200 years in the future) - he might think Gibson is too old for the character, nearing his sixties as he is. He was only twenty-four or thereabouts when they made Mad Max 2.

It's funny, because Thunderdome took place some eighteen years after The Road Warrior, and even then Gibson is still too old by at least a decade.

Personally, given that he's worked with him before, I'd have no problems with someone like Hugh Jackman, in the role.

I see no point in a Mad Max movie without Mel Gibson.

And I also don't see a way to top the second one.

Harry at AICN says a reliable informant of his in Oz has confirmed that Mad Max 4 is a go. Considering that Miller's own Dr. D Studios website has shown 'Fury Road' as being in pre-production for many months now, this is no surprise. Despite what is said below, I still have to wonder if this is going to be a live action movie or not. Last we heard from Miller, he was looking at an anime, leaving open the possibility of a live action movie if the opportunity presented itself.

    More MAD MAX 4 details!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... While my internet was down, I was contacted from Down Under by a reliable informant who confirms that MAD MAX 4 is a go. Apparently - George Miller has already had the various vehicles built for years now - as they were built for the doomed FURY ROAD shoot - which was shelved while George explored Justice League possibilities. That said, the cars are out of mothballs and being prepped and tuned for the upcoming shoot. There will be a new MAX as this isn't an Ethan Embry story. There's also word on a MAD MAX Playstation 3 game that we'll be getting prior to the movie. This is all thanks to my source, whom I'll call the 6-fingered Bitch! Hopefully we'll hear more from the 6-fingered Bitch!
    http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41119

I just hope this is someone with independent knowledge of what's happening and not someone who's just repeating what they read in the Herald.

I also found this on someone's blog that could prove interesting as well.

MAD MAX 4 back on track?

Too early to tell, but I heard this last week, and shrugged it off based on the source. Then, an Aussie newspaper accidentally made a few comments re: the film happening this year under George Miller’s direction.

This lead to something we’d heard about six months ago (Mad Max 4 was on track as an animated film – horrible idea in our opinion).

And now, other sites are mentioning the potential in this being a LIVE ACTION reality. While no one has confirmed, the original newspaper stands by what they printed in regards to the vehicles being completed, the locations secured, and the production locking key crew.

We’ll keep you posted as we find out more.

I'd like to see Mel re-adopt his accent.

    agreed

edit: i like the idea of an animated film, and Miller already has a sucessful animation with Happy Feet but then, how you tie a film like Mad Max with Happy Feet? And adult animation always bomb at the box office.

Also, I'm not sure this is even a film about Max, anymore. It's just called "Fury Road" now, and I'm reasonably certain that Renner isn't going to be playing Max. Could be a film about the Great Northern Tribe, maybe - and, I could dig that.

Or, a more potentially - just odd possibility:

The new film is set two centuries on from where we last left Max, wandering the wastelands at the end of third instalment, Beyond Thunderdome.

While the first two films saw women and gasoline as being the most precious resources left to be plundered by biker road armies, and water became a plot catalyst in Beyond Thunderdome, this time around the unpolluted DNA of human 'pure breeds' will be the treasure all seek to possess.

Gibson's Max is expected to show up in the new film in flashbacks, to reveal what happened to him in the last years of his life, before the new Max, a 'son' derived from his DNA, takes over the story.

The new Max's mission will be to act as a 'protector' and escort a group of non-mutants across the wastelands with their precious stock of unpolluted DNA. This pure DNA stock is desired by the mutant hordes, as it can be used to clean up their genes, and make them resistant to the radioactivity that still infects the land.

The infamous post-apocalyptic wastelands this time, however, won't just be the ochre flats of outback Australia. One major chase sequence will be set on the floor of the Grand Canyon.

This is a more potentially schlockier plot than any of the previous films. Although, Gibson is nowhere to be found, so -

Ok, I'm on board for whatever George Miller is dreaming up right now.

I like the idea of finding out how the life of Max ended - in videotape flashbacks.

So, according to Robin Williams, Happy Feet 2 starts filming in January of this coming year, with recording sessions already being mounted.

How is this going to work? Will Miller be doing the whole Michael J. Fox "Family Ties/Back to the Future" thing, running back and forth from the Mad Max set and the Happy Feet production house, day and night?

TOM HARDY looks to be playing Max - as the film is set shortly after the demise of Master Blaster. Also - the film will have Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Teresa Palmer and Adelaide Clemens

Here's some real news for you:

From Tom Hardy, who's now confirmed to be playing Max:

"I'm rather, obviously, limited to what I can say. These things are always binded to secrecy and I think that's a good thing for the film anyway. I'm not allowed to give away anything. Without incriminating myself in any way, it's a very big film. To step into the shoes of Mel Gibson. George [Miller] and Mel created the franchise Mad Max, which started off as an independent which then blew up. It took off. It became the Mad Max as we know it with t-shirts and DVDs…

There were many, many actors that would probably be right for Mad Max and there's plenty out there who could probably do an exceptional job to portray him. It's especially a challenge to step in the shoes of such an iconic character. So obviously I'm aware that I'm going to take a certain level of casualties when I go in and play him. If I concentrate on that, then it's obviously not going to be the best thing for the project."

"It's a relaunch and revisit to the world, an entire restructuring. That's not to say that it's not picking up or leaving off from the Mad Max you know already, but it's a nice re-take on the entire world using the same character, depositing him in the same world, but bringing him up to date by 30 years. Obviously Mel would've been perfect for it but, for some reason, he's not doing it and I am. You can expect the same amount of grit and rawness and authenticity [to my] performance, I hope to deliver. But that's really the crux of me and George to deliver that and all the other actors as the other characters.

But also we have the new world afforded to filmmakers today with all the opportunities and facilities and technical abilities. I think the boys that did Lord of the Rings are involved and all that kind of stuff as well. CGI is not going to be — I think it's going to be much more like Chris [Nolan], how he deals with action - these things are going to be really there. Big rigs, big explosions, big car crashes, big violence, you know. It's going to actually happen as opposed to doing a 2D turned to 3D screen. It's going to be an adventure, let's put it that way. We're shooting for a year…"

"I can't say when I'm going to be in front of the cameras. I'm actually headed tonight to Australia to start some stunt-training. I'm training now. Even though I'm smoking. I'm meant to drop 30 pounds, so smoking and one meal a day is my training at the moment. I'm going to start fighting soon, the harder stuff, when we get close to the line…

[We're] shooting for probably nine months. The training period is allocated as two months, technically. We don't know whether it's going to push a little bit or come up a little bit, we're in sort of a gray area. There's various anomalies and shifting papers. All kinds of people's schedules, from what I'm aware, need to be tied down. The movie is absolutely healthy. So it is going, it's just a question of, not if, [but] when precisely."

(On the looks of the character in the film)
"Imagine a hungry wolf. Or like when you put a cat in the bath. You grab a cat by the throat and stuff it under the fucking water. You know what it looks like? That's what I'm going to look like. But like a puma. Very hungry and very dangerous. It's imperative. This is the kind of guy who's not well. So I have to create that reality."

    From First Showing
So, it's a direct sequel to the second film, and they're going an exclusively practical route. Awesome.
